Re: Encryption
Why broadcasters don't simply ditch the now long obsolete and inefficient MPEG-2 compression on the 1.0 signals and switch to MPEG-4 AVC to help alleviate the effects of the increased spectrum crunch caused by the creation of the 3.0 Lighthouse stations is beyond me.
There isn't enough money to ...

A longer response is coming from Nick. He's been busy with prep for NAB among other things.

Re: Encryption
I don't think you quite understand the dynamic. This operates under the golden rule: he who has the gold makes the rules. Adopters have no decision making power. We can propose different solutions for different areas and then it's up to A3SA to approve them, reject them, ask for them to be ...

Re: Encryption
Nashville is a huge pain for OTA with CBS and Fox up north, NBC to the west, and ABC and PBS to the south. Some markets had station owners/engineers with the good sense to get together during the DTV transition and agree to consolidate to a single broadcast site so make things easier for viewers ...

Re: XMLTV guide data
The api.hdhomerun.com URL needs to be https rather than http. The server will send a redirect but curl will not follow it unless the -L parameter is used.

Re: Encryption
As has been pointed out previously, the "broadcast encoding rules" aren't laws or regulations, they're just what the broadcasters that make up A3SA agreed to. They can change those rules at any time if the majority of the voting committee agrees to change them.

Just a reminder, "Discussion of third party products that do not utilize HDHomeRun tuners" is off-topic.
Nick will post an update when he has one. He hasn't even said anything to us yet, so he's probably several dozen pages deep.

Re: Encryption
All HDHomeRun devices function as gateways, taking broadcast or cable TV and making it available to other devices over the network. Of course, only the models with ATSC 3.0 support (CONNECT 4K, FLEX 4K, SCRIBE 4K) matter to this particular discussion.

Re: unofficial Docker Container for Record Engine
There was a bug in the part of the DVR code that handles the communications between DVRs that is used to decide which one will make a particular recording.

Re: unofficial Docker Container for Record Engine
This may not be the correct topic to post this question, but I figure I would start here.
I am running two instances of this Docker container. One on my unRAID server, and the other on my Synology NAS. Both are running version 2.1.0 of the HDHomeRun DVR Manager, and Record Engine Version 20231020 ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
I suspect a lot of people don't read the terms they agree to when participating in the Apple beta program. There's some interesting stuff there that I won't mention, but one thing I will mention is that all feedback is supposed to be submitted to Apple. FWIW, I personally am not a beta program ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
The tvOS 17 that gets released in a month or so will be significantly improved from what is in the beta, just based on past Apple experience. Apple betas are often buggy as hell, and they tend to fix the vast majority of the problems themselves for the release version. Once the release is out, we ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Jason, yes, my 3rd Gen is on the beta, but my 2nd Gen Apple TV 4K is on 16.6 (20M73) and it's also on version 20230510 (App) / 20230510 (UI). My HDHomeRun 4K is on firmware 20230719. And all I'm getting on the DRM channels is a black screen with the channel ID.

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Is the HDHomeRun 4K getting DRM a given at this point or is there still a possibility that it will not get DRM?
All HDHomeRun 4K models are getting DRM support.
for hdhomerun apps only ? or will they work with our other players?
We can only control our apps. If other apps want to jump ...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
What about Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen)? My Apple TV's HDHomeRun version is still at 20230510 (App) / 20230510 (UI) and I get a signal on one channel, but I can't change the channel. And there's no other updates via TestFlight.
Sounds like you're on the tvOS 17 beta, which is known to be broken for a ...
