Re: ATSC 3.0: Washington, DC / Baltimore, MD

The Baltimore ATSC 3.0 signals come from WNUV's RF 25 signal: https://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=25076ff3797a6ed301797b4c67990216&site=1&map=Y 154.1 WNUV is on the more robust QAM 16 PLP, so it's easier to decode in weak reception areas. 145.1 WBFF is on the QAM 64 PLP, while the ...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Washington, DC / Baltimore, MD

Everything except for WIAV are the Baltimore stations. If you're outside of the usual coverage area of the Baltimore stations and don't get them now, it was likely atmospheric boost pulling them in during an overnight autoscan. DC's own ATSC 3.0 service using WHUT's RF 32 signal is slated to go live...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Orlando, FL

The MQD22LL/A lists Atmos in its specs, so it should be good for AC-4 audio.

Re: ATSC 3.0 signal quality VS ATSC

WNLO-CD uses 45-1 as its virtual number (145.1 on the HDHomeRun 4K). WNLO-CD's RF 14 ATSC 3.0 signal is shared with WAVY (ABC), WTVZ (MyNet) and WVBT (Fox). The HSN's and QVC's you see on 14-x are W26EV-D, which is owned by HSN's parent company. Pre-repack they were W14DC-D, but since it's a LPTV si...

Re: ATSC 3.0 signal quality VS ATSC

Norfolk's ATSC 3.0 lighthouse is the 15 kW Class A WNLO-CD , so it's going to be weaker than their full power ATSC 1.0 counterparts that have 850-1000 kW signals. One of the rules is that the ATSC 1.0 simulcasts have to be on a signal that has at least 95% coverage area of the signal that converted,...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Phoenix - Jan 2021

That "punching up the power" message was referring to their move from a 39 kW signal on VHF 12 to a 1000 kW signal on UHF 18. No one is having the olympics 4K in OTA since there's not enough bandwidth to do 4K when the ATSC 3.0 lighthouses have to be shared between 3-6 HD stations for the ...

Re: Recording and Playing back 3.0?

Windows Media Center will not work with ATSC 3.0 since it uses the HDHomeRun in BDA mode to physically tune to channels, and Media Center development was halted long before ATSC 3.0 was a thing. There's also the whole AC-4 audio issue and right now there are no DirectShow or Windows Media Foundation...

Re: ATSC 3.0 Charlotte NO AUDIO and other issues

ATSC 3.0 uses AC-4 for audio, not all devices or 3rd party apps support AC-4

Re: ATSC 3.0: Orlando, FL

Channels bundles a version of libavformat and libavcodec built with the unofficial AC-4 patches, for various reasons applications like VLC, Plex, Emby, Kodi and others can't do that until the patches are accepted into mainline FFmpeg.

Re: ATSC 3.0: Orlando, FL

Which specific iPad models do you have? For Apple support of AC-4 widely varies based on the model and year of the device. In general it's 2018 and newer, but on some years support can vary between models.

Re: ATSC 3.0: Orlando, FL

Whats weird from the start is that the Audio stream is Data ( bin_data ) vs Audio ( ac4 ) ... Stream #0:1[0x32]: Data: bin_data (AC-4 / 0x342D4341) Stream #0:2[0x33]: Data: bin_data (AC-4 / 0x342D4341) That's because FFmpeg doesn't have any support for AC-4, so it doesn't know that streams tagged a...

Re: AC-4 Audio?

Actual NextGen TVs aren't affected by this, it's bring your own viewer/decoder tuners that are. We went through the same thing with the first ATSC 1.0 PC tuners in the late 90s/early 00s since MPEG-2 and AC-3 codecs weren't bundled with Windows until Windows 7. Prior to that it was up to the PC's ma...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Orlando, FL

(maybe with traditional numbers). The HDHomeRun adds 100 to the number of ATSC 3.0 channels so people watching on platforms that don't have the ability to playback AC-4 audio or handle interlaced HEVC can still tune to the ATSC 1.0 channels. On an actual NextGen TV those ATSC 3.0 channels will appe...

Here's a reverse situation for the Philly area. Local Now is distrubuted as 4:3 network with 14:9 letterboxing, but WDPN 2.7 has it set to 16:9 so everything appears stretched: https://www.transfernow.net/dl/20210622YPiLUAMp (There's a bunch of pixelation/breakup right now because a storm system is ...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Phoenix - Jan 2021

Both KPHO and KPNX have filed to change their ATSC 3.0 hosts from KFPH-CD's RF 35 signal to KASW's RF 27 signal starting on July 8th.
