Re: The HDFX-4K, a different perspective and why it is a good purchase..
Your DMA has a lot of translators that are cluttering the results on the Channel Master maps, try using the RabbitEars search instead. Make sure you search for your specific location, as zip code only searches usually resolve to either the center of the zip code or the location of the post office, a...

Re: HDHomeRun App on Roku vs Firestick
The HDHomeRun supports a lot more than just network connected media players. Roku's market share for phones, tablets, game consoles, laptops and desktops is 0%. Most of those other platforms along with AndroidTV/FireTV can use the common UI, while Roku requires them to have a seperately coded UI. Th...

Re: Encryption
Recently, KPTV enabled DRM and they offer no alternative. KPTV's main ATSC 1.0 signal is still on VHF 12 , where they have been since the 2009 DTV transition. Like many other VHF stations across the country did once the repack filing freeze was lifted, they petitioned for and were granted a constru...

Re: HDHomeRun App on Roku vs Firestick
I'm not sure I agree with your statement of firesticks over roku. Maybe if your comparing hdmi sticks but, I own three roku ultras with specs that destroy the latest firestick. It doesn't matter how good the specs are, Roku puts so many restrictions on what developers can do. So nearly every functi...

In addition to Detroit (O&O), at last check CBS is also DRM free in Sacramento (O&O), Seattle (Cox), Tampa (Tegna), Orlando (Graham), Portland OR (Nexstar), Indianapolis (Nexstar), Salt Lake City (Sinclair), Raleigh (Nexstar), Greenville SC (Nexstar), West Palm Beach (Sinclair), Cincinnati (...

Re: Super Bowl in 4K HDR
Just a heads up, Verizon FiOS will have the Super Bowl 4K HDR telecast on channel 1495. Verizon FiOS customers might need to do a rescan on their HDHomeRun Primes to see it as it was only recently added to the lineup. For the SiliconDust staff, if the Gracenote data didn't already auto match it, you...

Re: Chicago Finally, sadly DRM
It turns out channels were shuffled around. WBBM and WGN happen to be on the same frequency (19) now. ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 can't co-exist on the same frequency. In order to convert WBBM's RF 12 signal to ATSC 3.0, all the 2.x channels had to find new homes: 2.1 CBS HD is now on WGN's RF 19 signal ...

Re: Encryption
can you imagine how many people would buy a Siliconroid? Not many as any feature on it is also going to be available with a $20 Onn from WalMart or any other AndroidTV based device. Most people will want an AndroidTV device that does more than just the HDHomeRun app, and in order to do that not onl...

Re: Encryption
CableLABS has different requirements than A3SA. Nickk or one of the others explained a while back, it had something to do with FireTV not using Google Play so it can't be Play Protect certified.

Re: Encryption
Again, that's specifically talking about datacasting services. It's not talking about video programming, and has nothing to do with DRM or Subscription OTA. Even datacasting isn't unique to ATSC 3.0. Like right now many PBS stations have a hidden datacast stream on their ATSC 1.0 feed delivering lea...
