Re: how soon is soon?

No wine before it's time. Anyone who has ever been part of large software development knows that you can either have a date, or a list of deliverables, but you can't have both at any scale with any precision (it is sort of like the Quantum Mechanics Uncertainty principle, you can only know with high...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

It’s a nickel and dime game, especially with Xfinity (Comcast). I think the entire device pricing is about to come to a head as Comcast decides how they are going to price Roku and Samsung (and presumably their ATV) apps once they come out of beta. While during the beta they are free, Comcast has p...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

That would not be very enticing. That is the thing (as others have mentioned) that due to specific MSOs pricing, some could pay it back fairly quickly by needing a smaller number of CableCARD rentals, or simplifying their environment. Everyone does need to make their own eval for their own environm...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

I believe they mentioned the possibility of the price being in the $200 range <OT> $199 retail list would seem to probably be a good intro price (~$33/tuner), and cheaper (per tuner) than the previous 3-tuner model at introduction. One should always be willing to take the early adopters money (use ...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

Given that CableCARD is a dying technology I wouldn't expect to see SD expend the resources and money to support two different CableCARD models. But you never know, maybe they'll surprise us. I can easily conjecture that there could be a price optimized variant which only had (say) three tuners/dem...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

I never understood why the Qutaro is 100 Mbps but the Prime is gigabit when OTA requires more bandwidth than cable. US 8VSB is (~max) 18Mbps, so 4 full rate streams is less than 100Mbps (and for an engineered solution such as this, that works). US QAM256 is (~max) 38Mbps, so 3 full rate streams is ...

.... This is not an SD issue, this is a user issue. And if you can figure out how to improve the users, please share. Or patent the business process and make trillions! Given the users we have (not the users you might like to have), I suspect the only way to address the issue you are bringing up (w...

Re: Python & Windows scripts for HDHR DVR recordings

Thanks. I fixed the one on line 111 but then I got another one on line 117, and then one on line 124. I'm out of time tonight so I'll have to continue some other time. There are a number of (semi-)automated tools to assist in conversion of legacy (obsolete) python2 scripts to python3. Only those st...

Re: Forum Improvements?

Forums are forums. I can mostly live with the phpBB current capabilities and limitations. I don't visit for pretty, I visit for simple information, and 95% of the time text works well for that. For me, the only improvement I would like to see is improved spam blocking. There are numerous approaches,...

Re: HDHRUtil utilities - A few useful (python3) scripts for those using the HDHR ecosystem

I had a couple of errors with corrupted recordings being messed up in the DB and not existing which made it choke (it could probably just cycle over them). I added a comment in the README that one should run the MythTV find_orphans.py script to first clean up your MythTV database (GIGO problem). Im...

Re: QNAP QPKG for DVR Record Engine

I notice that the qpkg filesize difference between 0.9.32 and 0.9.33 is almost double. Any particular reason for this? I have no special knowledge about the actual details (and I am much much too lazy to actually check), but I will note that the more recent recorder engines seems to now have string...

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Five years of recordings being uploaded into the new architecture now!
Please let me (us) know how it works. It was intended as a sample (I never tried it at any scale, just onesies/twosies for the few recording I was still time-shifting).

Please add to the install instructions to uncomment out the record dir line in the config :|
I'll see how to improve the docs (and/or the sample conf file mentioning comments in general, and pointing out that the "REQUIRED* line also means removing the comment #). Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Unofficial HDHomeRun DVR repository for RPM based systems

Summary of changes on 2018/06/28 that are user visible: Support for (latest) openSUSE (Leap & Tumbleweed). The Leap repo *should* work for SLES 15.0, but since I do not have a license SLES is untested. The instructions have been updated on the first post to simplify future maintenance for repository...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

...why do I have to buy a new AVR? And one does not, but it would require yet another external converter which takes the HDMI signal and extracts/converts the audio to S/PDIF, which as for pricing (at least for the versions that reliably work at high quality, you might be able to find some cheap cr...
