Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

This puts you on Comcast's plan for "****" which also gives you free HD service. While there are a few areas which actually have an HD Programming Fee (which is about subscribed channels), most of Comcast has a HD Technology Fee (similar sounding, but different) which all it does is enable the HDMI...

There is an error here
No, there is no error, the first post explicitly states you have to accept repos that are not signed. If you neither read that item, or if you don't know how to do that, or do not believe it applies to you, you may not be tall enough to ride this ride.

Re: Unofficial HDHomeRun DVR repository for DEB based systems

Is it possible to have a headless Linux box record DRM content from Cable as long as I only watch it through DRM capable devices like Windows? There is no current ability in the shipping HDHR DVR ecosystem for any platform to record content for later playback that requires a protected path. The sta...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

]Charter in my area actually raised the cost of internet $10 a month to cover the cost of the 'free' modem. Cable pricing goes up all the time(*), so it is always hard to know with any accuracy how to allocate the increases (Charter has also invested millions at each headend, and in the plant, for ...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

Bad luck with modems. We’ve had no such issues, 2 modems and 2 different ISPs (Comcast and Spectrum) for over 12 years. Only bought the second one to upgrade from Docsis 2 to Docsis 3. For us it was money well spent for $80 over 12 years. FWIW, Charter under SPP now gives out "free" modems (no mont...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

It states Roku would work I am sure others will. Which (at least according to the current statements from Comcast) will be about the same price (~$2/mo cheaper) as the Comcast STB when the (free) beta period for Rokus (and the current Samsung) apps end. For some, the Roku, or the Samsung (or the ru...

Comcast has non-CableCARD areas already.
Almost all providers have FTTx areas (new construction in (true) greenfields is typically FTTx), although many are still using RFoG to preserve some existing facilities, there are known exceptions (as you see).

Re: how soon is soon?

No wine before it's time. Anyone who has ever been part of large software development knows that you can either have a date, or a list of deliverables, but you can't have both at any scale with any precision (it is sort of like the Quantum Mechanics Uncertainty principle, you can only know with high...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

It’s a nickel and dime game, especially with Xfinity (Comcast). I think the entire device pricing is about to come to a head as Comcast decides how they are going to price Roku and Samsung (and presumably their ATV) apps once they come out of beta. While during the beta they are free, Comcast has p...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

That would not be very enticing. That is the thing (as others have mentioned) that due to specific MSOs pricing, some could pay it back fairly quickly by needing a smaller number of CableCARD rentals, or simplifying their environment. Everyone does need to make their own eval for their own environm...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

I believe they mentioned the possibility of the price being in the $200 range <OT> $199 retail list would seem to probably be a good intro price (~$33/tuner), and cheaper (per tuner) than the previous 3-tuner model at introduction. One should always be willing to take the early adopters money (use ...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

Given that CableCARD is a dying technology I wouldn't expect to see SD expend the resources and money to support two different CableCARD models. But you never know, maybe they'll surprise us. I can easily conjecture that there could be a price optimized variant which only had (say) three tuners/dem...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

I never understood why the Qutaro is 100 Mbps but the Prime is gigabit when OTA requires more bandwidth than cable. US 8VSB is (~max) 18Mbps, so 4 full rate streams is less than 100Mbps (and for an engineered solution such as this, that works). US QAM256 is (~max) 38Mbps, so 3 full rate streams is ...

Given the users we have (not the users you might like to have), I suspect the only way to address the issue you are bringing up (w...
