Re: poor signal quality until box is restarted

I'm glad you posted the pictures. One problem you will certainly have in the future if you don't already is that your cables are just hanging loose from the antennas. When they flap in the breeze the antenna connections will eventually tear loose. That may already be causing some of your variable re...

Re: Trouble tuning PBS High Def channels Boston

Maybe I'm using the site wrong, but..... I am in ZIP 01757, I do not see the info you posed (Thanks for the site, BTW!) I used the market listing for Boston which lists all of the stations in the market, both virtual and real channels. An arrow between real channels (example: 38 → 4) means the stat...

Re: Trouble tuning PBS High Def channels Boston

According to RabbitEars, 2.1 and 44.1 are on RF 5 (both 1080i) along with 24.1 (WFXZ, 480i) while 2.2, 2.3, 44.2, 44.3 and 44.4 (all 480i) are on RF 32, along with 15.1 (WBTS, NBC, 1080i) and 15.2 (Cozi, 480i). Many people would have trouble receiving RF 5 because they don't have an antenna designed...

Re: HDHR-US Firmware

20170930 is the latest--and probably last--update for the HDHR-US. It was added primarily to allow the legacy models to work as well as possible with the View app, particularly its guide service, even though they lack the newer models' capabilities.

Re: Current User Interface

With the end of Media Center Edition (MCE) Guide fast approaching, I am forced to rely on HDHomeRun's (HDHR) apps for recording. Have you tried EPG123, a replacement for Microsoft's WMC guide service? It requires a subscription to Schedules Direct, which isn't free but it's not expensive either. It...

Re: Homerun Dual vs Connect Quadro - Reception

Not much to go on. Where are you? Zip Code is probably sufficient, or you could locate yourself on the TV Fool site, make a Radar Plot (the button just above the map) and post a link to the Radar Plot page. TV Fool's data are badly out-of-date but still useful especially when used with RabbitEars , ...

Re: HDHR5-4US: crawl space installation?

Since the HDHR will be always on, so warmer than its surroundings, I doubt that condensation will be an issue. A more serious risk is that the crawlspace will get hot in the summer and overheat the HDHR. Sealing it in a box will make that even worse. You should mount the HDHR where it won't overheat...

Re: Fewer channels and worse reception

No idea why you don't get WAGA 5.1. It's on RF 27 and roughly the same distance, direction and power (1000 kW) as the two you do get. BTW, those two (WSB, VC 2.1, RF 32 and WGCL, VC 46.1, RF 19) appear to be on the same tower, according to RabbitEars, along with WUPA (CW), VC 69.1, currently RF 43 b...

Re: Fewer channels and worse reception

You said you have a Clearstream 4. If it's the original 4, not 4V or 4MAX, it doesn't have any elements to receive high VHF channels. WXIA (NBC, 11.1) is on RF 10. There's a PBS station on 8, moving to 7, and another one on 21. The rest of the majors are on UHF. Obviously you get some reception of W...

Re: Are newer HDHR boxes better?

When a TV can easily receive channels that an HDHR can't, the problem is often that the signal is too strong, not too weak. To find out, run hdhomerun_config_gui (located in the HDHomeRun program directory) to check the signal strength of each channel. Use the actual, not virtual channel numbers. If...

Re: Win7 WMC to Win10

If you do want to record DRM channels, you can keep using your Win 7/WMC computer even after Microsoft stops supporting it. If they drop the guide service you can switch to EPG123. It requires a subscription to Schedules Direct, which costs, but not much. And those who use it say it's a much better ...

Re: Firewall appliance breaks Live TV

In several older threads about routers interfering with LAN traffic, it has been recommended to add an Ethernet switch between the router and the rest of the LAN. That might keep the firewall from affecting LAN-only traffic.

I need the preamp I am 60 miles away from the towers in mountain 2Edge territory. KZSW is a 3KW channel 2 miles away from me. It's blowing out adjacent channels out. I wish I could find a band reject filter for it. Any affordable band reject filter would adversely affect the adjacent channels. One ...

Re: Forum support for code BBCode no longer preserving formatting

Whenever I want to post text where it's important to preserve spaces, such as code indents or column alignment, I first copy it into a text editor (I use Notepad++ but most any editor should do) and replace all spaces with non-break spaces (Alt+160). Then I copy it to my post and enclose it in Code ...
