Re: HDHomeRun Prime - Provider cant get it right.

Does "eCM MAC: Unknown" raise a red flag? That's normal for a retail CableCARD device like HDHomeRun PRIME, Ceton, or Tivo. Some cable provider devices have an embedded cable modem (eCM) that is used for two-way communications, and the eCM MAC is the MAC address for that modem. The VCTID ...

Re: Help with setting up new system

TVs are capable of playing MPEG2 from their built-in tuners. This does not necessarily mean they can play MPEG2 via an app, or play it well. The app system may go through an entirely different decoding path that doesn't do MPEG2, or does MPEG2 but poorly (lower quality, goes out of sync, etc.). Neit...

Re: Help with setting up new system

That system is going to make a lousy Plex server. First, macOS is limited to a single hardware transcode at a time. Second, Intel GPU transcoding before the 5th or 6th generation of Core CPUs is known to provide lower quality results, and that system uses a 4th gen CPU. Third, the CPU in there is ex...

Re: Win7 WMC - Added RAM, Broke DRM

Only changing the motherboard, CPU, or HDD should break DRM, not just adding memory, so that is a little odd. You can do a DRM reset without redoing the TV setup. Steps 1-4 and 12-18 at https://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3760 should do it. The ResetDRM program isn't needed most of ...

Re: Since installation, plague of "privacy errors" in Chrome

Ugh, please stop using Macs running El Capitan to browse the internet. There are enough unpatched vulnerabilities in that old stuff to gain system level access just by visiting the wrong web page, allowing for installation of keyloggers to record everything you type in (passwords, etc.), access to y...

Re: Help with System Design

For what it's worth, federal code prohibits most restrictions HOAs like to put on antennas. They can restrict installation in areas that would pose legitimate safety hazards (e.g. installing where it might fall on power lines if it comes loose), or if you are in a historic district. Otherwise, the r...

Re: Dallas ATSC 3.0 is off the air

The real advantages are the broadcast OFDM (which makes it more resilient to multipath) and the increased efficiency of HEVC as the video codec. 4K OTA may or may not ever happen. It will require a huge investment in infrastructure at the network level, at the distribution level, and at the station ...

Re: Problem of a low-power ATSC 3.0 broadcaster

Is it the contour that matters? I don't remember the details on that part of the rule. It's unlikely that anyone would actually be impacted by KEFM using 9. The mountains block KQED from reaching much of the overlapping area, most of that area is farmland, and even if there was signal there or anyon...

Re: Problem of a low-power ATSC 3.0 broadcaster

The FCC actually has rules for how this is to be handled. If a low-power station signs on using an RF channel that matches the virtual channel of another station already in the market, the low power station is required to use the RF channel number of the other station as their virtual channel number...

Re: Long coax vs. long ethernet cable

The HDHomeRun is designed for ambient temperatures of 0-40 °C (32-104 °F). Attics often run 20 °F or more above the outside air temperature, so it's easy to exceed that range on a summer day even in coastal areas that don't ever get particularly hot. A 25' coax run is only going to drop signal stren...

Re: HD HomeRun freezes when another program opened

What about in other UWP apps? Windows treats UWP apps very differently from a resource scheduling perspective than it does traditional Windows apps. UWP apps are treated like phone/tablet apps: if they aren't the foreground app on the screen, any resources they're using are up for grabs, even to the...

Re: Multiple streams, one freq, same tuner?

You can't just feed a raw ATSC 3 stream to anything and expect it to work, because basically nothing out there supports the ROUTE and MMT protocols used by ATSC 3 to carry the audio and video data. The only reason the HDHomeRun is even really useful for ATSC 3 is that it can extract the audio and vi...

I mentioned the audio issue on the Fox channel in a reply after they let me know it was back on air, but there hasn't been a response since then.
