Re: Encryption
I just received an update to the HDHomeRun app on my iPhone. All the What's New says is a terse DRM update. I gave it a try and all I get is the Unable to play channel: etc. message on the DRM encoded channels. So, whatever this update is intended to be, DRM decoding isn't one of them.
If you ...

Re: Encryption
Would be good to see an official response to this issue, any dependencies that need to be resolved, who is doing what and if so, expected timing on when we will see the encryption addressed.
Thank you,
Ian
Yeah... good luck with all that!

Please feel free to get this thread back on topic with:

Re: Encryption
Which is why I asked a while back why the HD Homerun could not be modified so it could at least tune and receive encrypted ATSC 3.0 stations so they could be at least viewed on the TV but not record them until the legal stuff is resolved. Seems like an easy change to me.
Which is why a while ...

Re: Encryption
From some of the things I've read it sounds like these may just be the 1.0 versions of the channel and not the actual 3.0 version, is that right?
You can use web interface to your HDHomeRun to see if it's ATSC 3.0 or not by turning a 1xx.x channel that has content, then going to the web ...

Re: Encryption
Does a network really tell a broadcaster that unless they encrypt the signal, the broadcaster cannot have the show?
It's called licensing agreements and contracts are involved. So yes, the network / content OWNER can make any kind of LICENSING agreement they like and the broadcaster gets to sign ...

Re: Encryption
How do you use the tuners web interface for signal strength?
Larry

If your attitude is wanting answers, I wouldn't look for them here as until it actually happens there isn't much to mention that hasn't already been said a million times so there is no reason to ask yet again.

Re: Encryption
As for Plex and Channels, I know they will have to provide approved apps, but the question is, are there any restrictions in the specifications that doesn't allow their apps from using SD hardware like they do today.
Considering that Channels can stream content outside of the home, I assume ...

Re: Encryption
Once niikk has a chance to review and digest the specifications/blueprints, I, like most of us out on the thread, hopes he'll provide a breakdown of what the A3SA specs are Assuming it's public information; it may be licensed only to developers (at a cost, I would imagine) and quite possibly under ...

Re: Encryption
I'm not sure I understand what Ned is saying here, about the possible someday eventual maybe usability of an $20 ONN Android-based Widevine-based ATSC 3.0 box at Walmart that "will eventually get DRM ATSC 3.0 channels". Does that mean he's predicting that the device itself will someday be ...

Re: Encryption
So exactly what does Silicondust plan to offer their customers in regard to DRM encryption? I see a lot of what you can't do, but nothing about what you can do.
From the first post in this thread:
Will DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels play on my Android or Fire TV device?
Using a gateway ...
