Re: Encryption

If your attitude is wanting answers, I wouldn't look for them here as until it actually happens there isn't much to mention that hasn't already been said a million times so there is no reason to ask yet again. This. A million times over. Reading this thread is like reading posts from kindergartners...

Re: Encryption

[removed by moderator - see forum rules] You'll have to forgive me, but I really don't see anything I said contrary to others like the previous poster "RickD_99" just said. And based on the previous recent frank and rather terse statements on the A3SA and DRM situation NedS just made. But...

Re: Encryption

Got it. Thank you. Is there a particular reason why it couldn't do the same for live TV also? 1) Recording works by TV show/episode so it only matters that it is the same episode, not that the channel is 100% the same. 2) Thinking it would be confusing if you select channel 102.1 and it tunes or ju...

Re: Encryption

If this release is BS, why doesn't SD issue it's own press release stating this, and file a complaint to the ATSC committee and the FCC stating that their PR announcement failed to provide the requirements for a gateway DVR? Try putting the heat on the A3SA and call them out so consumers know that ...

Re: Encryption

Before everyone gets too excited, be sure to read the fine print that was buried at the end - bold emphasis mine: What they are saying here is that so long as the ATSC 1.0 broadcast is out there they'll give you this functionality. After that is the rug pull where all of the restrictions they've dr...

Re: Encryption

https://rbr.com/dvr-specifications-released-for-new-nextgen-tv-devices/ That looks encouraging! Now that they are over 14 months into encryption, they finally release a solution for set-top makers? The big questions are: 1. Has SD received copies of the new specifications? 2. Are the specifications...

Re: Super Bowl in 4K HDR

Nice increase in cloud transcode usage. Stable bandwidth graph which suggests that people who started on ATSC 3.0 stayed on ATSC 3.0 for the duration of the game. System was running around 10% capacity which is about 6x higher than typical non-game days. That's interesting... Must still be quite a ...

Re: Encryption

How is A3SA able to prevent the recording of any of the OTA (free public airwaves) programming if the courts have already ruled that consumers can record content for personal use? Isn't this the same reason we have DVR's today? https://legalbeagle.com/6696968-tv-recording-copyright-laws.html That's...

Re: Encryption

[removed by moderator] But what is your point here? As HDHR products are "Gateway" devices and this forum thread is for discussing DRM solutions for them. The ZB is a "STB" device that has a different set of requirements from the A3SA to handle DRM that are much easier for its m...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

SD, ya'll been saying "in a firmware update in the future..." are we talking Dec 2023, or Dec 2024? When A3SA gets their act together. We've been waiting on them. And which is what's so discouraging, as the specific holdup recently described by Nickk, is a problem with the A3SA's licensin...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

Now the actual DRM decryption would be done by the hardware and OS running on the Fire Cube itself? So the Fire Cube already has the built in ability to decrypt DRM programs, but (I guess) needs certain information provided by the FW from SiliconDust to perform it? Yes. Someone please help me out h...
