Re: Encryption
They are killing OTA so it will all be streaming. Look at NBC with Peacock and CBS with Paramount +.
Which if true, again proves the dishonest duplicity of the broadcasters and the A3SA. Since Gateway solutions like the HDHR can be readily updated to handle the type of DRM encryption used by ...

Re: Encryption
Or specifically it's the Gateway devices that conveniently allow viewing and DVR'ing of ATSC 3.0 broadcast content to multiple clients over a home network they seem to want banned.DennisFL wrote: Mon Aug 04, 2025 7:13 am Huawei is irrelevant. They want to ban gateway devices and DVRs.

Re: Encryption
I like these parts of the document best.
Not allowing DRM on public airwaves is a solution. It is the solution that would be best for the US
consumer and for device makers.......
To stop applying DRM encryption broadcasters simply need to untick the DRM config option on the
station video ...

Re: Encryption
Forcing an ATSC 3.0 deadline will require all TV sets to include an ATSC3.0 tuner. Once all TVs have this tuner then 95% of all OTA users will have a viable ATSC 3.0 solution and the small fraction of us who prefer a gateway device can be ignored. They don't want to fight SD, they want to bypass ...

Re: Encryption
I still don't see how merely having a SoC from a now officially banned Chinese mfr. Without the necessary communication I/O hardware and firmware running on a consumer video gateway device. Can possibly be a security threat to anything?
And if there's no actual decryption of content to take place ...

Re: KDFW 4.1 Dallas just went DRM
I wonder if the reason the FCC appears to be stymied on this issue over DRM. Is due to the ambiguous position the broadcasters are taking. Operating like a pay TV service transmitting scrambled TV signals over the public airwaves on one hand. But then operating like a free OTA TV service on the ...

Re: Encryption
Saw some discussion on the "Channels" app with AppleTV and wanted clarification.
If I have a HDHR 4k Flex --> router --> AppleTV --> Channels App, can I watch the DMR 3.0 channels live?
Or was this being discussed only as a preferable 1.0 setup...
There are NO apps that will decrypt DRM ...

Re: Encryption
To my eyes, the ATSC 3.0 version, while NOT 4K, is a better picture than the 1.0 version.
Probably many variables are involved, but in the Indianapolis market, that appears to be the case.
Haven't looked at your specific market, but the 3.0 signals probably are better looking due to the ...

If your attitude is wanting answers, I wouldn't look for them here as until it actually happens there isn't much to mention that hasn't already been said a million times so there is no reason to ask yet again.

You'll have to forgive me, but I really don't see anything I said contrary to others like the previous poster "RickD_99" just said. And based on the previous recent frank and rather terse statements on the A3SA and DRM situation NedS just made.
But I ...

Re: Encryption
Got it. Thank you. Is there a particular reason why it couldn't do the same for live TV also?
1) Recording works by TV show/episode so it only matters that it is the same episode, not that the channel is 100% the same.
2) Thinking it would be confusing if you select channel 102.1 and it tunes ...

Re: Encryption
If this release is BS, why doesn't SD issue it's own press release stating this, and file a complaint to the ATSC committee and the FCC stating that their PR announcement failed to provide the requirements for a gateway DVR? Try putting the heat on the A3SA and call them out so consumers know ...
