Re: Encryption

And there are additional thorny questions that the Commission is going to have to address.
Consumers are clearly concerned about the use of encryption technologies also referred to as digital rights

Re: Roku Player Error

I've seen my 4660 blow when connected to my hdhr5-4k within the last week. My hdhr5-4k is set to start Live TV and Live TV slice guide.

The primary channel it would start playing is ATSC 1.0 but there is a ATSC 3.0 non-DRM channel. It's infrequent so I usually ignore it and hope it goes away.

Re: Encryption

I may have lost track of this. But usually there a fixed number of days for comments and then a set day for a "ruling". What is the end date if any. That way I can just hibernate until then

Re: Encryption

Of all the possible government conspiracies and their importance, one of the top 10 that the government is working on has to be DRM. The new FCC chairman probably doesn't even know what it's all about.

Re: Encryption

Maybe you need to change "we'd all like a detailed update" to "I would like a detailed update".

I watch the rabbitears ATSC 3.0 threat for how many new lighthouse stations are coming online. Without more ATSC 3.0 channels coming online full coverage in the top 55 markets isn't going to happen. And ...

Do you really think companies want to expose there progress and target dates for new products and features to their competition.

Re: Encryption

Will that make progress go any faster. Or just waste a bunch of time updating threads and answering posts. And what happens when SD makes 1 step forward or 2 steps back. Just post when it's done.

Re: Encryption

I'm sure those other A3SA requirements will mysteriously go away if SD builds it's own add-on.

Re: Encryption

Once SD gets the android solution certified wouldn't using the fire tv stick be the same secure solution.

Re: Encryption

And maybe any ATSC 3.0 broardcast containing watermarked audio, video, and extended features will probably be encrypted.

Re: Encryption

Could one reason be that the actual URL's are embedded in the video watermark and change for each show.

Re: Encryption

I'm good with that. All of my ATSC 3.0 stations are currently non-DRM. And I only have one new TV where the AI 4K upscaling from 1080p to 4K makes it worth the hassle

Re: Encryption

The article hints at what direction sinclair might want for the future- going forward. Not what it is currently doing. When a major NAB talks about a new business model for ATSC 3.0 what do you think it means.
