Re: Summer 2024 Olympics on ATSC 3.0 with Dolby Atmos?

I will try to be clear: (1) No currently available receiver/AVR on planet Earth will accept native "bitstream" AC4 audio (passed-through untouched in original native still-encoded AC4 form) and decode it. They just haven't manufactured AVRs that include the licensed codec from Dolby. So as...

Re: Summer 2024 Olympics on ATSC 3.0 with Dolby Atmos?

Just came across this article from NBC https://www.nbcolympics.com/video-audio-quality which states the following: NBC coverage of the Olympics will be available in 1080p Dolby Vision and Atmos through NBC’s NextGen TV broadcasts in select cities. So if someone has a Atmos capable receiver, tomorro...

Re: Summer 2024 Olympics on ATSC 3.0 with Dolby Atmos?

The Z******* has a built-in official licensed Dolby AC-4 decoder, in the hardware. So inside the box is where the AC4 audio decoding is occurring, once and only once. Output of the decoded AC4 is sent to the AVR as discrete multi-channel 5.1 LPCM (not transcoded back into a second lossy AC3 5.1 for ...

Re: Encryption

I've been a user of SD products for over 7+ years, and I love them. Not so long for me. I jumped in with the Flex-4K about 1.5 years ago. Loved it, and still love it... for non-DRM ATSC 3.0 here in LA. I don't use or want a Za$$erbox, but because they are cable to record ATSC 3.0 DRM's content, the...

Re: Encryption

I wouldn't put much stock in their "future plans", given the current restrictions in place. It's unknown exactly what they are really describing. But as I interpret things they are not hindered by wanting to stream DRM content around the network to popular player devices which are themsel...

Re: Encryption

From the first post in this thread: Will DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels play on my Android or Fire TV device? Using a gateway product - we expect it will be possible in the future but it is not possible today. The Google Widevine DRM decryption is possible but there are other requirements that are...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

ATSC 3.0 audio is fully supported on Windows with the HDHomeRun app. No codec pack required. Wait... are you referring to the cloud-assisted decoding automatically invoked by the Windows app as what you call "fully supported"? Windows 10 or Windows 11? Yes, it does work and produce sound ...

Re: List of Supported devices

Actually, I'm sure the LG story is that it is 2017+ OLED sets do support AC4. I have an LG C7 and HDHR app runs fine on it with AC4->transcoded->AC3 audio is delivered "pass through" to my AVR over HDMI-ARC (no support for eARC yet in C7 2017). On my C9 there is ARC/eARC support for the HD...
