Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

For those who wonder I just posted a link re an article re a competitor who is releasing a Networked DRM compatible DVR and tuner starting in April. I posted an independent article NOT a link to the competitor's website. So as another company has found a way to release an upgrade for their customer...

Re: Encryption

Will DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels play on 2023 Samsung televisions? From my understanding of the requirements it isn't possible for an app on a Samsung TV to meet requirements. I plan to ask A3SA for clarification. Nickk, is the goal of the A3SA and it's DRM security to allow broadcasters to tur...

Re: Encryption

Maybe off-topic, but something I noticed today is that a local NBC ASTC 3.0 station is no longer using encryption and is now accessible to me, after about probably a year of being encrypted (don't recall exactly when it was switched on). Wonder if this is temporary, and if not, what the reasoning w...

Re: Encryption

That looks encouraging! Now that they are over 14 months into encryption, they finally release a solution for set-top makers?

Re: Encryption

I wish SiliconDust could build an Android player module that could be DRM certified by A3SA to provide the secure path from tuner to HDMI output. It would only be the player and all the controls to the player would be handled by an Android app which would not be required to be certified by A3SA. So...

Re: Encryption

Our best bet is to raise hell with our representatives. Write, Call… If they are making you guys certify to each individual Tablet, phone.. that is absolutely ridiculous and unmanageable moving forward. I mean, imagine there is bug which is allowing people to record everything regardless of the fla...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

I can testify that my HDHR5-4K can successfully record an ATSC 3.0 broadcast. Through the $20 WalMart Onn "Google TV box" no less! :D Now if somebody from the broadcast industry will PLEASE work with SiliconDust on DRM, I can quit being so mean to the broadcasters in the AVS ATSC 3.0 foru...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

I also confused- what's the timing on DRM issue being addressed....I love my HD HomeRun 4K because it's so easy to use the add on all my devices in my home, vs. setting up these other boxes on individual TV's but I'm in NYC and now I have 3 ATSC 3.0 channels blocked with encryption......hopefully t...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

For those wanting to talk about (not going to post it) or (not going to post that one either), I would encourage you to go spend time at the AVS Forum ATSC 3.0 thread . Having to wade through piles of "content removed" messages here is becoming very tedious when all I want to know is what...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

I fail to see how your devices are "Nextgen TV Certified" when they actually do not work at all for ATSC 3.0 since those stations are all DRM/Encrypted in most markets. The HDHomeRun is Nextgen TV logo'd. DRM support is optional in ATSC 3.0. Meanwhile, i see some other tuner boxes that al...

It can hardly be defined as "theft" IF the manufacturer left the output wide open... For all we know, it's meant to be open there.

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

I thought the orginal members of pearltv were the ones in favor of DRM. You would think they might not be too happy with the certification of a STB that appears to allow an obvious siphon of decrypted output. I don't think that was intended. I think they rushed this box out the door way before it w...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

Now the actual DRM decryption would be done by the hardware and OS running on the Fire Cube itself? So the Fire Cube already has the built in ability to decrypt DRM programs, but (I guess) needs certain information provided by the FW from SiliconDust to perform it? Yes. Someone please help me out h...
