Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified
Question: what is stopping the HDHomeRun 4K from getting DRM channels?
https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78888
It says Android is supported for the Widevine decryption, but neither my Android phone or Google TV Steamer device can play the DRM'd ATSC 3.0 channels ...

Re: Encryption
So what's the endgame? Tv stations will disable DRM for people that pay?
Nope. The providers will NEVER give up DRM with ATSC 3.0, UNLESS the government FORCES them to do so. Don't be confused, That's the whole reason of them switching to 3.0.
So, you're saying they are putting on DRM, so ...

Re: Encryption
I just got the Flex 4K so I could watch the ABC station that moved to ATSC 3.0 a few months ago. After installing it, I saw the DRM tag. Since I had never seen that before and never had to worry about it, I am not on this rabbit trail of DRM/Plex/Gateway devices/etc. I saw a lot of comments in ...

Re: Encryption
Something to think about...
Encryption is being forced by ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and Univision networks, not the local broadcasters.
A3SA was created by and is operated by ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and Univision.
If you can't watch OTA you will probably use the network provided streaming platform ...

Re: Encryption
We have PLENTY of leverage as long as it's NOT mandated. Just don't buy any ATSC 3.0 tuner, AND continue to get the word out to everybody you know, that neither should they, because they are encrypting everything. Dissuade everybody you can from even considering anything to do with 3.0 ...

Re: Encryption
I agree, but I do not see where we, the consumers, have any leverage with the broadcasters or anyone else. It would be nice if some powerful congressman on the Oversight Committee could pickup this issue and hammer the FCC. They have the power to regulate this stuff. I addressed the issue to my ...

Is my device going to be able to encrypt the DRM channels?
If not, I'll be selling it for something else that can.

Re: Encryption
Will DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 channels play on 2023 Samsung televisions?
From my understanding of the requirements it isn't possible for an app on a Samsung TV to meet requirements. I plan to ask A3SA for clarification.
Nickk, is the goal of the A3SA and it's DRM security to allow ...

Re: Encryption
Maybe off-topic, but something I noticed today is that a local NBC ASTC 3.0 station is no longer using encryption and is now accessible to me, after about probably a year of being encrypted (don't recall exactly when it was switched on). Wonder if this is temporary, and if not, what the reasoning ...
