Sinclair "Broadspan" 4K streaming using ATSC 3.0 spectrum

The 4K pay streaming industry thanks you for your support of ATSC 3.0: https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/sinclair-launches-broadspan-datacasting-platform Emphasis added: Black also said that the bandwidth provided by NextGen TV broadcasts will dramatically expand the ability of streamers to provide ...

Re: T2 Tennis Channel

One should also keep in mind that many of these broadband channels require DRM to be in place (ZB even had to issue another firmware update about it as some isps weren't getting along with the DRM methods used) All the more reason not to waste engineering and development time even opening that can ...

Re: T2 Tennis Channel

I personally hope SiliconDust does not go down the slippery slope of supporting internet "broadcasting." I hear what you’re saying but from my point of view getting the content I want (in my case higher quality 1080p or 4K sports) supercedes the delivery method. So then why pester SD to d...

Re: Encryption

The DC ATSC 3 stations seem to have ruined the reception of ABC 7.1 for me. odds are you have a local noise interference issue impacting VHF reception. @cncb, If you are close enough to the low power WDCN 3.0 transmitter in Merrifield, VA, the local interference could be a WDCN second harmonic. But...

Re: Encryption

Do you see a possible scenario where we might lose read/edit/whatever-I-want access to recordings of unencrypted ATSC 3.0 channels? Seems highly unlikely. I have no idea why anyone would be doing that. Please see https://www.avsforum.com/threads/adth-atsc-3-0-tuner-thread.3283967/page-29#post-63124...

Re: Encryption

This. So again I ask: what is the point of DRM certification if it doesn't guarantee that HDHR users can at least view DRM-encrypted channels live? Unless you plan to add HDMI outputs or provide dongles as @DSperber suggests, I don't see the point. (Note also that insofar as SD is at the mercy of A...

Re: Encryption

“We plan to offer broadcasters the ability to block the user from viewing the channel via their home network.” This is the current situation, mission accomplished! If I can’t view it, none of the rest even matters. Why waste the electrons? Thank you for noticing! I've been wondering how long it woul...

gtb wrote: Tue Sep 12, 2023 8:01 pm What the broadcasters have been recently pushing is the FCC subsidizes a cheap box that converts ATSC 3.0 to a HDMI output to support existing ATSC 1.0 only TV's and then everyone can go ATSC 3.0.
Not good enough. That box also needs a standard NTSC output for those still using CECBs.
