Re: HEVC Stations- No difference
Ready to ship this box back due to no improved HD quality. Generally a good idea to do at least a base level of research before dropping $200 on a bleeding edge new tech. Then, if you chose to buy the product after said research and have a problem/question, it is usually a good idea to do a base le...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Seattle / Tacoma - Jan 2021
Is anyone getting actual 5.1 audio from 104 or 107 on any of your devices? On my Xbox one and Nvidia Shield (2019) to a non-atmos receiver I still get 5.1 being reported but the audio is only front left and right. I'm not sure if it is playing as stereo or mono but either way it isn't playing as 5.1...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Raleigh/Durham - Jan 2021
This is all very good information. Slow tuning is already enough to cause me to stick with SD DVR software instead of the painfully slow Plex tuning. Plex also transcodes the video, so SD looks better. I'm basically happy with SD DVR software and maybe the bug that bothers me the most is if you onl...

Re: Question on how ATSC 3.0 has been deployed
I wish the “now broadcasting” stations were not in sub channels off the main channel. In my area the signal is great, picture beautiful. But I can only get the 16QAM PLP layer. This wouldn’t be an issue if EACH major channel in my DMA of Nashville TN hadn’t decided to sub channel to the main just s...

Re: Detroit ATSC 3.0 - Jan 2021
The HDHomeRun W10 app is another problem. The first problem is that there is no informational menu (signal strength, tuner number, tuner ID, etc.) so it is difficult to discern WHY I'm looking at a blank black screen. although I wonder why SD isn't pushing their own CODEC to VideoLan and elsewhere ...

Comparison of the difference in file sizes on two recordings of the same half hour show, one ATSC 3.0 vs ATSC 1.0. The ATSC 3.0 file is about 60% smaller. Re: Streaming device that supports HEVC
I have an older Roku that does not support HEVC. What devices have you used that work for both ATSC 1.0 and 3.0? HEVC is not the issue with any newer device you are going to buy, it is whether it can support AC-4 audio. There is a thread about compatible hardware here: https://forum.silicondust.com...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Raleigh/Durham - Jan 2021
The station manager said it was 1080i. But they updated it to included a flag to "force" the aspect ratio and those same tools now report the stream they said was 540p as 1080p (again with the manager stating it is the same "1080i" broadcast). This is interesting... If you could PM me a link to a s...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Raleigh/Durham - Jan 2021
The caveat is that the players will not report interlaced content correctly. All HEVC content will be reported as progressive. So you may see some stations being reported as 1080p when they are actually interlaced. Rabbit Ears is also incorrect as he doesn't have a way to determine it (I had him up...

On a side note, how to I determine resolution and frame rate There are a few simple methods: You can use a command-line player such as ffplay or mpv – these will generally print the resolution and frame rate of the channel being tuned within the command-line VLC should be able to show you this info...

Not only are they not doing it this year, previous year's 4k was reportedly just upscaled at broadcast from 1080 workflow. Waste of bandwidth for marketing purposes (other than hdr) as a 4k tv can do the upscaling.

We are back to a somewhat normal lineup on 35. The Univision App is taking up 2 Mbps of the available data rate, so AZPBS isn't there right now. I'm in the Seattle market but we also have the app data being broadcast on our Univision channel. Are you aware of how it is supposed to/will work? Is the...
