Re: Encryption
So is this a way to get PBS (and a few other independents) to turn on DRM? Ugggh.

Re: Encryption
I've read much hand-wringing about DRM causing concern during emergency situations. But I cannot fathom the issue. If there is an emergency the broadcasters can always turn DRM off. Pure ATSC 3.0, no certificates, no internet required. Then they turn DRM back on after the emergency is over.

Re: Encryption
Oh, for sure. I only meant "viable" in the eyes of Pearl and possibly a misinformed FCC. Not at all viable for those of us with a DVR mindset.HoTst2 wrote: Thu Jul 31, 2025 11:04 pm More like just a "bare-bones minimum" ATSC 3.0 solution for the 95% of OTA viewers wouldn't you say?

Re: Encryption
Forcing an ATSC 3.0 deadline will require all TV sets to include an ATSC3.0 tuner. Once all TVs have this tuner then 95% of all OTA users will have a viable ATSC 3.0 solution and the small fraction of us who prefer a gateway device can be ignored. They don't want to fight SD, they want to bypass ...

Re: Missing AC-4 stream
Good to know, thanks. I'll try some other players. I knew AC-4 decoding was patent-laden and probably not happening, but I figured the meta-data would at least acknowledge it existed.

Missing AC-4 stream
Hi,
I have an HDHomeRun Flex 4K that works great. Firmware 20250623, using HDHomeRun Windows software I can play all received, non-encrypted OTA channels. I am attempting to save AV streams to a file with a small program I wrote.
When I save from http://192.x.y.z:5004/auto/v15.1 (an ATSC 1.0 ...

Re: Encryption
Until the a3sa can function as an independent entity the broadcasters are going to continue their messing-up the prospects of rolling out nextgen television aka atsc 3.0.
We gotta stop seeing A3SA as a separate org. It's just a smoke-screen. The A3SA only exists so that pedantic a**holes can say ...

Re: Encryption
Regardless of what happens with ATSC 3, we still desperately need a replacement for 1.0. The DVD-era encoding used as obsolete and inefficient, which means a waste of radio spectrum and everything that is recorded taking up much more space than it needs to. Unless of course you choose to re-encode ...

Re: Encryption
Unfortunately this does not seem to be an issue with WideVine vs. PlayReady vs. FairPlay. The A3SA has had several years to make progress. It is pretty clear that they do not want gateway devices of any kind on ATSC 3.0 DRM reception. They basically delay, delay, delay. I'm pretty sure SD has been ...

Re: Encryption
DKIM and SPF are in use.
The last 8 years of my professional life before retiring in 2023 was with a marketing automation company (email service) as a product engagement manager. It is increasingly hard - and expensive - to maintain your reputation as a "good sender" and stay out of the spam ...

Re: Encryption
They are putting on DRM/Encryption, so they don't have pirates setting up tuner farms and selling the signals cheap via IP tv, without them getting paid. IF it's all encrypted, AND pirates still steal the signals and sell them without the legal rights to do so, it's a whole different law to stop ...

Re: Encryption
I thought I read in the previous encryption thread that SD had implemented a round-trip-timer to limit SD viewing to within the LAN of the installation? That is what A3SA required. So, it would seem that A3SA could approve SD devices for viewing only, if recording is actually the delaying factor ...

The one I was referring to is not listed there. Not trying to be cryptic but...
Ha ha, too funny all the weird dancing we have to do to communicate in this quaint forum. I think I found the product you are referring to. They don't mention DRM either? Entirely possible that the A3SA part of their ...

Re: Encryption
I don't see anything on that product page about DRM support. So they are just as much of an ATSC 3 gateway device as the SD Flex currently is. Full gateway support for non-DRM channels. But that product is not actually even for sale, is it? You have to click and fill out a form for a quote. Ooooh ...

Re: Encryption
*Note to forum moderators - I had to space out the spelling for **** in order to get it to display, this is a perfectly legitimate media center which does not condone piracy but 3rd parties make pirate add-ons available for it. This has nothing to do with the media center software itself, in fact ...
