Re: AC-4 Audio?

That branch is against the main trunk. I compiled a 4.3.x version and Kodi now plays audio for ATSC 3.0 Dallas, TX stations (H.265 + AC-4). I expect it will take a few months for slower distributions to get ffmpeg 4.4 / 5.0 that will carry this support, but we'll be there much sooner than I guessed...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

I was on phone with Dallas local SiliconDust tech rep. He said that he had a call with engineers and they would not give him a time frame. Could be quick, but may take a while. It is 100% a software issue. What is this regarding? The slow start-up? Now that AC-4 support is available in ffmpeg I've ...

Re: AC-4 Audio?

I compiled this fork of ffmpeg on linux: https://github.com/richardpl/FFmpeg/tree/ac4 I don't think this is in the main trunk for ffmpeg, but this is at least promising. That branch is against the main trunk. I compiled a 4.3.x version and Kodi now plays audio for ATSC 3.0 Dallas, TX stations (H.26...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

I tried contacting the FOX4 station FCC contact a week ago and did not receive a reply. Either they are out on vacation or feel I am not worth their time. I'm asking if they will drop to a AC-3 or AAC audio stream. Does anyone know of a station or engineer contact for this ATSC 3 broadcast? I tried ...

Re: AC-4 Audio?

I saw that if the device supports DD+ that it should support AC4 as well (no idea how true that is really). Everything I have read from Silicondust says if the device supports Atmos then it should support AC4, see this post for example: https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=133&t=7425...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

@jasonl, do you mind sharing your station engineering contact here or via PM? I'd like to send a message discussing a change of audio codec.

Re: 8 Nov 2020

Audio support varies by platform and client device. One of key improvements in the next Android release is supporting audio on the 1st gen Nvidia Shield when used with an Atmos system (TV, sound bar, or home theater system). Atmos does not mean AC-4 support though so I'm confused by this comment. A...

Re: Looking for the official HDHomeRun add-on for Kodi?

Understandable. I'm still getting used to the PVR interface, but the Python add-on interface had its charm and I was used to it as a multi-year user of it. If you don't mind posting it in a read-only state with a note about support being discontinued that would be great. I have an old fork of it, bu...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

The HEVC channels are off the air this morning. At least I have FOX "back" with the 1.0 channel selectable again.

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

I know nothing about the different audio types. All I want is to watch tv and get a good picture. I will admit to being interested in new technology...lol. You're right. No one should have to worry about things like audio codecs, but thanks to corporate greed here we are. Will I be able to watch tv...

Re: Looking for the official HDHomeRun add-on for Kodi?

Was this due to the switch to Python 3 with Kodi 19? That was the only change I know of as the add-on works for me. I submitted a PR to support Python 3 to Github, but it removed support for Python 2. I just tried out the PVR add-on and it seems to replicate the same functionality so I don't see muc...

Re: ATSC 3.0: Dallas

The FOX channel is streaming about 3.5MBit and has plenty of compression artifacts. Disappointing. Maybe when they switch off the 1.0 channel they will up the bitrate a little bit. As I have seen mentioned elsewhere there is a considerable buffer time before the first frame is displayed in 3.0 chann...

Re: AC-4 Audio?

I wonder how much Dolby paid the ATSC group and/or broadcasters to force AC-4. There was no reason to use a new codec when there's a million of them out there. The best one is FOSS and Royalty-Free - Opus.

ATSC3/October code for hdhomerun_config and GUI

Are there any plans to publish the 202010** releases of libhomerun / hdhomerun_config_gui for Linux?

Are there any plans to publish the GUI code base into something more modern such as your Git Hub repo?
