It depends on how you set it up. If it was set up as "device storage" then it is encrypted to that specific Android box, and you would need to connect both old drive and new drive to the Android box, and use a file manager app to copy the files over.

The Android DVR still defaults to keeping a trailing log that I can check, so if you give me a specific example then I can see if that recording logged an error.

Firmware updates trigger a reboot, and it's the reboot that is what normally pushes a failing component over the edge. If power in your location is stable, then the firmware updates might be the only time the HDHomeRun actually reboots for most of its life.

What are the "Device ID"s printed on the bottom of those HDHomeRun units?

Does it show an error message or anything if you try to open it a second time?

How often does it happen? Does it happen on both HD and SD channels? And can you give us an approximate time for when this happened for you? (the application logs are very long and nothing is jumping out at me at the moment)
