Re: Why switch from Media Center to SD DVR?

Basically, I am asking "Why should I switch?" If you have to ask that question - the answer is: you shouldn't. WMC also works on Win 10, but you have to leap through a few flaming hoops and apart from being slightly singed when the event is complete you end up with a working WMC you can go on using...

Re: kind of off topic -- USB streaming stick suggestions

Only one outlet near TV and too many kitchen 'gadgets'. Even the multiplier may not help. Old 1950s house - I would be afraid to use one. I ran across a USB to micro power cable for Roku USB stick or Fire Stick on Amazon by accident. I really don't care for the UI on any of these but since I ...

Re: kind of off topic -- USB streaming stick suggestions

The Electrician in me has to ask - where are you plugging the TV in? A Rube Goldberg Super Plug Multiplier and Spark Generator won't work in there somewhere? https://www.amazon.com/Ideaworks-Outlet-Multiplier-only-outlet/dp/B00IU2B9NM At one time Roku offered a stick that ran off an MDL port and got...

Re: HDHomeRun Mux Question

The HDHR output file is going to be a Transport Stream - filename.ts What's in the .ts container depends on your unit. Some units can convert the MPEG-2 video stream you'll get for OTA stations to H.264, but the container is, I think, still going to be a .ts file. If the .ts file is the holdup, MCEB...

Re: HDHomeRun OTA Live for Roku

...The same configuration works with Amazon FireStick - video and audio - does Firestick decode audio differently? Fire TV/Stick handles AC3 - Roku Does Not: https://developer.amazon.com/docs/fire-tv/device-specifications.html Would HDMI Audio extractor fix the issue? Not sure how that would help -...

Re: Still hung up on font size

The HDHomeRun app is a 10-foot UI. If you have a 50" TV and you are sitting 10 feet away it doesn't matter if it is 720p or 4k - fonts still need to be sized large enough to be readable. We have a sofa set up at the office with distances marked out - we can move the sofa and can swap out different ...

Re: HDHR DVR -> MCEBuddy -> Plex Config?

To add on to ACraigo's excellent advice is that a huge benefit to the MCEBuddy Donator version is that you can strip ads and it can also convert from the raw MPEG2 (MPEG4 if you have an Extend, which you should disable anyway if you're transcoding it with MCEBuddy) and transcode it into H.265 HEVC ...

Re: HDHR DVR -> MCEBuddy -> Plex Config?

thanks for that! I tried using %premiereyear% as I saw it suggested somewhere else and it did not work. I will try this tonight! Re: the whole 'point your Plex library to the HDHR Recordings folder', I think this might work for movies, but I don't see how it would work for TV shows. thanks again! T...

Re: HDHR DVR -> MCEBuddy -> Plex Config?

I would like to post-process and move movies recorded by the HDHR DVR to my Plex library. Has anybody figured out how to use regular expressions inside of MCEBuddy for this specific thing? It seems like movies in HDHR DVR are saved as "<MovieName> <ReleaseDate>[<RecordDate>].mpg". I think ultimatel...

Wouldn't it be more helpful if you had a support ticket open and sent an email to them referencing the ticket everytime instead of posting in this forum?
Depends on who it helps.

The best way to deal with something buggy is to drag it out into the light.

Re: Homerun and Roku

Easiest way is to use the Roku Player and DLNA. Until you actually use RMP and DLNA (that won't work with MPEG2 on "Most" Rokus), then almost any expense is warranted building a Plex/Emby system to display TV on your Roku properly - don't spare the horses 'cause ur gonna need 'em (read: powerful se...

Re: Comskip with HDhomerun DVR

No it won't! At any rate, I find my solution to be the most cost effective. It is quicker to skip commercials when they're marked and if the marker is misplaced none of the content is missing. A reasonable, low cost solution that works well for us. Yea, I got ad removal covered, as should most user...

Re: Comskip with HDhomerun DVR

Which was actually the point I was trying to make, that to do it right costs real money, so commercial companies offering such a capability need to either step up, or step away. And since most people want no commercials until they are expected to pay for the privilege, most companies should probabl...

Re: Comskip with HDhomerun DVR

The solution (by the big players) that works reasonably well uses various combinations of heuristics, AI, and human validation to create an accurate skip-list for the network feeds (usually available a few hours after broadcast). In other words, spending real money and providing a paid service (or ...
