Re: Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

I'm sure you can email customer service to cancel and get a refund. You can, I did, and they did. In fact Ned reached out to me as a result of my post. But yes, a notification of renewal would be nice. Or not be automatic at all, where you have to login and actively renew once a year. Then they'd h...

Re: Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

Maybe I overstated my case. Correction: Many of them do. Amazon. CallCentric. All of my domain registrations. My gym membership, which is charged month-to-month but the contract is annual, the notify me when the contract is about up and I have to sign to renew. Our trash pickup service. (Only though...

Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

It sure would have been nice if Silicon Dust had sent a notice that our DVR subscription was going to renew, rather than renewing it without warning. I used that DVR software all of about a month the first time. Forgot to cancel it. Now I just paid another $35 for a subscription I haven't used for 1...

If they also turn off the tuner, that is a power to a few thousand homes saved right there. If they can sleep the entire device, that is a power plant saved.
Exaggerate much? Image

Re: Fire Stick 4k

Guess I still won't be buying one of these any time soon. (This is pretty appalling performance on Amazon's part, IMO.)

Re: Servio and Scribe

Now, we could up the connection to a 1Gbps one, but again, you're adding 6 months to development. And adding to the cost of the product for what is almost certainly a corner case use. A manufacturer has to ask itself: "Will this feature draw enough additional customers to make the investment worthw...

Re: Servio and Scribe

Yes a switch is cheap, but "cheap" 4 port switches are not very good. Define "cheap," I guess. I've used both managed and unmanaged NetGear ProSafe 5-port switches ($50 and $35, respectively), and neither has ever given me a lick of trouble. In our HT system I've currently got four devices on wirel...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

Thanks for the update, Matt. Glad it's working out well for you :) I solved my problem less expensively. Amazon FireTV v2 and a J-Tech HDMI/S/PDIF splitter. Switched to the Fancy Bits Channels suite of DVR (running on a Synology DS218+) and apps. Got 5.1 DD on the HT system, subtitles we can love on...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

Sorry for confusion. I realize I only have to purchase the app once. We have 5 TV's viewers in the home, with 2 using Apple TV, most using Android. The $14.99 cost of the app, to only provide OTA channels to 2 of the viewers is still not cost effective. You do realize you pay that only once, right?...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

The cost of purchasing Channels app for 2 Apple TV's is not cost effective as we only use HD Homerun for OTA Broadcasts. I would have assumed you would only have to buy it once for all your ATV devices--assuming they're all on the same Apple I.D.? That's the way Channels apps work for Android TV an...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

Congratulations! :D Thanks! :) I'm so flippin' happy I could nearly wet myself, and no mistake. Now , assuming the SD DVR'ing service works acceptably for us, it's looking like I can realize The Dream. The Holy Grail of Whole-House TV/DVR. The TV At The End Of The Rainbow. TV Nirvana. The Thing And...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

The current Yamahas are pretty nice and have all the bells and whistles. When you start looking make sure to check Costco as they carry carbon copies of the other Yamahas at a much better price than even online. The Costco ones are tag as TSR instead of RX, but it's just a branding thing and the TS...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

I can fully appreciate you appreciation in audiophile caliber equipment. Pro-logic may be in your future because inputs and stuff. *shrug* Maybe. There is no question I'll eventually upgrade the receiver. Just not right now. But maybe I'll begin my research now so I can have a feel for the landscap...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

The Sony AVR that it replaced was 7.1 with multiple inputs including HDMI, Toslink and SPDIF. I felt little need to upgrade in the first place but the Sony AVR was also a budget unit and had poor sound quality, ... Which is why I don't buy "budget" sound hardware. I am, or was, an audiophile. Had t...

Re: Apple TV app (tvOS)

At the moment isn't the discussion of audio formats in relation to SD's app a moot point since all OTA and Cable TV are DD 5.1 at not any of the newer formats. It's more moot atm because SD doesn't yet have an app for tvOS ;) To me, @jseymour is only trying to maintain parity with his current proce...
