Re: Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

I'm sure you can email customer service to cancel and get a refund. You can, I did, and they did. In fact Ned reached out to me as a result of my post. But yes, a notification of renewal would be nice. Or not be automatic at all, where you have to login and actively renew once a year. Then they'd h...

Re: Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

Maybe I overstated my case. Correction: Many of them do. Amazon. CallCentric. All of my domain registrations. My gym membership, which is charged month-to-month but the contract is annual, the notify me when the contract is about up and I have to sign to renew. Our trash pickup service. (Only though...

Advance Warning Of Impending Renewal Charge

It sure would have been nice if Silicon Dust had sent a notice that our DVR subscription was going to renew, rather than renewing it without warning. I used that DVR software all of about a month the first time. Forgot to cancel it. Now I just paid another $35 for a subscription I haven't used for 1...

Re: Xfinity Activation from Ebay

eBay has excellent buyer protection. Inform the seller you require them to resolve this issue immediately or issue you a shipping label and, upon receipt of the item, a full refund--incl. any shipping charges. If they balk: File a complaint with eBay that the item is Significantly Not As Described. ...

Re: Jittery and pixelated video

For starters: Is this happening on all channels, or just some? Have you examined the properties of the signals involved, using HDHomeRun Config GUI, the tuner status web page, or one of the mobile device apps that are available? If it's happening on all channels, and the stats look good for them (e....

I know you guys killed the service but there's literally no mention of it anywhere..
Why would there be mention of, or a place to discuss, a service that, in another ±2 days, no longer exists?

Re: Did I miss the New Firmware announcement ?

They still haven't fixed the download links on the Linux page yet. I had to guess at what the download URL should be to get the .bin files. It's the same every time. Silicon Dust wants to be in charge of your tuner and entire viewing experience/ecosystem; the problem with this is that it makes it w...

If they also turn off the tuner, that is a power to a few thousand homes saved right there. If they can sleep the entire device, that is a power plant saved.
Exaggerate much? Image

Re: Sinclair Planning to Rollout ATSC 3.0 this year

The problem is cord-cutting has accelerated over the last year, it had accelerated last year over the year before, it's expected to accelerate still further this year, and next, and... Where this impacts OTA providers is they've grown fat and lazy on retransmission fees. As the people who've been pa...

Re: Sinclair Planning to Rollout ATSC 3.0 this year

You guys do understand broadcasters applying DRM to OTA once ATSC 3.x is deployed is not outside the realm of possibility, right? What would the point of DRM on broadcast channels be? Lower the number of potential viewers to suppress advertising rates? That's certainly the effect it would have on us.

Sinclair can roll to their heart's content. I'm not replacing a couple thousand $$$ worth of TVs and stuff for ATSC 3.

Guess I still won't be buying one of these any time soon. (This is pretty appalling performance on Amazon's part, IMO.)

Re: Servio and Scribe

Now, we could up the connection to a 1Gbps one, but again, you're adding 6 months to development. And adding to the cost of the product for what is almost certainly a corner case use. A manufacturer has to ask itself: "Will this feature draw enough additional customers to make the investment worthw...

Re: Servio and Scribe

Yes a switch is cheap, but "cheap" 4 port switches are not very good. Define "cheap," I guess. I've used both managed and unmanaged NetGear ProSafe 5-port switches ($50 and $35, respectively), and neither has ever given me a lick of trouble. In our HT system I've currently got four devices on wirel...
