Re: Would like to have "Shrink to Fit" option on Fire TV

What do you mean the scaling isn't available? You can't scale/shrink the display to fit the screen on with the firestick display settings. Amazon tells you to set your tv for native mode, which isn't available on this older Toshiba TV, which like some others, overscans. All my FireTv's have this op...

Re: Air Date: Wed Dec/31 1969

Neither, it's the external HDHR-DVRUI web based stuff.

Re: DRM

I would guess it's more likely an encrypted file written to any normal DVR location, with the decryption/validation coming from the cloud.

Re: Air Date: Wed Dec/31 1969

This has been broken for quite a while. There is no need worry about future recordings, those are completely handled by the SD back end. The DVR UI is just a way to visualize things.

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

So it sounds like the moral of the story is SD is working properly, the guide data provider is working properly, but the local stations are providing bad data. Any of the 'fixes' discussed are only band-aids to mask that problem, and will not work if the original broadcast is indeed preempted for so...

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

The problem is the first airing tag is being used incorrectly. Who sets this? Is this directly from the broadcaster? From the data provider? SD?

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

Are you looking at the extracted data after the TS packet headers have been stripped or the raw file data in a hex editor? Wondering if you're just seeing the sync byte for the next packet. Good catch, it was indeed on the sync byte. This makes 100% of the metadata the same between the two files, o...

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

To add some more data points, my DVR recorded S17E16 twice from the same channel. Once on 3/28 when the original showing was on, then again on 3/30. The DVR clearly knew the original air date according to the name, yet still it recorded. The This Old House Hour S17E16 20190328 [20190330-1300].mpg Th...

Re: Feedback on new Discover Now

And, at the risk of making people hyperventilate, the channel number and network should not matter. Who cares if the show is on CBS or ABC? What you care about is the show, not the random distributor. When Brooklyn 99 changed channels, did it suddenly become better or worse? The only reason it woul...

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

Mine records that show twice on the same channel occasionally, so removing secondary channels may not even help. We're at the mercy of the guide data and how SD determines what to record in the cloud.

Re: The This Old House Hour recording same "new" episode multiple times

I see the same thing. This is likely the result of the provider marking them all as first run when that is clearly not the case. You can verify this by checking the metadata in the recordings. The DVR doesn't apply any additional smarts to figure out that the show is indeed the same by the episode n...

Re: Lack of basic record button makes me miss shows

The problem is in order to stop a recording you have to throw the server out the window. This. Want to record the state of the union? No problem, discover and select record.(I think the discover page is great BTW) Except it's on like 50 channels, and I don't like the one it randomly picked. Tried t...

Re: Servio and Scribe

Now, we could up the connection to a 1Gbps one, but again, you're adding 6 months to development. And adding to the cost of the product for what is almost certainly a corner case use. A manufacturer has to ask itself: "Will this feature draw enough additional customers to make the investment worthw...
