HDFX-4K turns flakey

I have an HDFX-4K that has suddenly starting acting up.
HDHR config bombs out and says "ERROR:communication error"
I made sure everything was up to date, but it is still not right.
I am not smart enough to include a picture, but here's what I do know......
Hardware Model HDFX-4K
Firmware VErsion ...

Re: Unable to play channel: No Video Data

I told you to wait for informed opinions. :D
But the website was very interesting.

Re: Unable to play channel: No Video Data

I am NOT an expert here by any means, so I would wait for an informed answer from somebody who actually knows what they are talking about. :D
I SUSPECT the channels you can not watch are DRM "protected" channels, which are a giant pain in the butt for Silicon Dust products. DRM "protection ...

Re: New FCC filing by Silicondust

Keep up the good fight Nick. I have a 4K tuner of yours that is getting ready to go to work on ALL ATSC 3.0 stations. :D

Re: Encryption

It seems to me that SiliconDust, through their filing, has proven beyond any doubt that ATSC 3.0 proponents have made absolutely absurd and disingenuous (to be kind) arguments in order to justify DRM.

Re: Encryption

In my eyes, Nick offered some very encouraging news regarding DRM I obtained while watching a Lon Seidman's youtube post.

Re: Encryption

I think this is HUGE. I would love for some SiliconDust folks to respond to what happened yesterday,

https://www.newscaststudio.com/2025/10/28/fcc-votes-to-accelerate-nextgen-tv-transition-with-flexible-framework/

from the meeting............

“support and accelerate the nation’s ongoing voluntary ...

Re: Encryption

I personally think AntennaManPA did a much better job. Lon might have given the impression that any old TV would easily work with an ATSC 3.0 signal.
But I personally thank both of them for their tireless efforts. I hope the FCC folks actually paid some attention. Will be interesting to see ...

Re: Encryption

I like these parts of the document best.

Not allowing DRM on public airwaves is a solution. It is the solution that would be best for the US
consumer and for device makers.......
To stop applying DRM encryption broadcasters simply need to untick the DRM config option on the
station video encoders ...

Re: Encryption

Again I ask which is easier/cheaper a redesign or being dragged through the muck.

Because, the chip they use doesn't matter ultimately. They are just going to complain about something else and move the goalposts. Pearl's assertions are wrong and they are trying to play it up to force a ATSC 3 ...

FANTASTIC response Nick! Detailed and complete, and even I could understand it. I think any FCC commissioner could understand it as well.

I took the liberty of stealing this post from the AVS forum. I enjoyed reading them as well as your excellent response.

Re: Encryption

We're getting enough disinformation and FUD from Pearl that we don't need it on our forum as well. We have already addressed this. We are still working on DRM. There is no new information that we are ALLOWED to share at this time. I want to scream to everyone who will listen about the bullshit we ...

Re: Encryption

Read it and weep. Doesn't this mean that without major changes Silicon Dust tuners will NEVER be able to handle encrypted signals?
