Re: Encryption
I personally think AntennaManPA did a much better job. Lon might have given the impression that any old TV would easily work with an ATSC 3.0 signal.
But I personally thank both of them for their tireless efforts. I hope the FCC folks actually paid some attention. Will be interesting to see ...

Re: Encryption
I like these parts of the document best.
Not allowing DRM on public airwaves is a solution. It is the solution that would be best for the US
consumer and for device makers.......
To stop applying DRM encryption broadcasters simply need to untick the DRM config option on the
station video encoders ...

Re: Encryption
Again I ask which is easier/cheaper a redesign or being dragged through the muck.
Because, the chip they use doesn't matter ultimately. They are just going to complain about something else and move the goalposts. Pearl's assertions are wrong and they are trying to play it up to force a ATSC 3 ...

Re: Encryption
FANTASTIC response Nick! Detailed and complete, and even I could understand it. I think any FCC commissioner could understand it as well.
I took the liberty of stealing this post from the AVS forum. I enjoyed reading them as well as your excellent response.

Re: Encryption
We're getting enough disinformation and FUD from Pearl that we don't need it on our forum as well. We have already addressed this. We are still working on DRM. There is no new information that we are ALLOWED to share at this time. I want to scream to everyone who will listen about the bullshit we ...

Re: Encryption
Read it and weep. Doesn't this mean that without major changes Silicon Dust tuners will NEVER be able to handle encrypted signals?

In a move that likely surprises no one here, the company whose name begins with a Z completed a working streaming+DRM solution using their HDMI connected devices, and it was just ...

Re: Encryption
Nexgen Certified TV's have the requisite keys embedded into their firmware. Broadcasters publish their video so that it will respond to either type of DRM keys (embedded or internet). Your comments simply do not apply to the majority of OTA viewers who choose to view 3.0. For the tiny group of ...

Re: Encryption
SD would hopefully mention the slew of devices that support reasonable streaming encryption all the way to the end device, but isn’t Widevine, that should be permitted by the A3SA for transport and is currently in use for streaming.
I don't understand this. Can you clarify for me? Are you saying ...

Re: Encryption
Mediaproxy appears to have certs for monitoring, diagnostics, etc, for station engineers and such. It's not something that home users/customers can use.
Thanks for the answer.
That echoes what I heard on the AVS forum. Hopefully you guys can figure out a way to break DRM on an affordable add-on ...

Re: Encryption
I have a related question or maybe not.
Why can't SD enable the HD Homerun to view DRM channels but suppress any recording for DRM channels until there is a solution to the DRM issue? At least owners of the homerun could view the ATSC 3.0 channels with DRM enabled. I know this is not the ultimate ...
