Re: atsc 3.0

Even with regular ATSC, some broadcasters have been transmitting encrypted sub channels. I have picked them up occasionally with a high subchannel number - like 67.27 and such. I don't know for sure, but I would expect that the station must at least have the main channel free and clear. It stands t...

Re: atsc 3.0

I like the enthusiasm but you might want to look at a recent youtube report by Antenna Man on his experience with testing 3.0 broadcast from a testing center. Do look at the current prices he lists on the available 3.0 tuners and the dongle needed for authorizing other channels that are broadcast [...

4k = HEVC

The 4k streams we are seeing on ATSC 3 are around 16Mbps.

If cable is higher bitrate then figure 4 streams of 4k content.

Nick
That low vs in Boise, ID which is 40Mbps

That is incorrect, they are HEVC

The HDHR Prime is only a tuner, it is blind to any kind of codec information.
Can post a screenshot MediaInfo detail
What are using watch it with.
I know it blind to any kind of codec information after all it just copy the steam just like ATSC.

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

There are already 4k broadcasts on cable TV. My current HDHR tunes them just fine. By next year there will be many different channels all broadcasting 4k Live events via cable TV at the same time. ESPN + NBC + FOX + FS1 + NBA + NHL There will be no way to watch or record 6 of them at the same time ...

Confirming, you will be limited to max 5 streams of 4k content.

Nick
Not at 25Mbps with 100Mbps port it won't in theory. In practice you're likely to be bottlenecked on the 5 steam

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

I am getting worried this will no longer be up able to withstand the future. Fios 4k broadcasts are 25 Mbps. I think that is actually a very conservative bitrate for 4k When 4k becomes more common there is no way this thing will be able to record 6 4k broadcasts at once with 100 Mbs Ethernet So if ...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

If they are indeed working on an ATSC 3.0 tuner, then that might explain the delay in the Prime as other products (Servio/Scribe) have delayed it in the past. That said, I'm not convinced that they are working on an ATSC 3.0 tuner. I agree but we only see 1 tuner model and TV set at first with in t...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

They have stated they won't speculate such until it is ready so no point in asking. But if their atsc 3 tuner comes out first, i would suggest they make an announcement of no prime 6 if not expected very shortly after to keep people from asking about it (then of course hope they surprise us soon af...

This "reading between the lines" when there's nothing else to read into is one of the reasons companies don't answer questions about future products, BTW.
I hit the Like Button but there isn't one ;)

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

Nothing, except there is no need for DRM recording when using OTA tuners. And since SD has stopped manufacturing of the Prime 3, and the Prime 6 is shelved for now, SD does not presently sell any device that needs DRM recording. Since the previous comment from Ned seems to imply that SD won't expen...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

Reading between the lines: Since the Prime 3 is EOL, and SD essentially has no CableCARD product to make further developing DRM support for their DVR financially viable ("Why develop software for hardware they do not sell," to paraphrase Ned's post), don't expect DRM recording any time soon. If the...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

You're confused. your the one don't get why it's necessary to tie recording protected content to the Prime 6 as is not up to Silicon Dust they only follow the rule set by law just like with HDMI and HDCP carp so you need to lean to deal with it or fine work around and if you can't well sorr...

Re: 6 tuner prime soon !!!

And they refuse to explain why it's necessary to tie recording protected content to the Prime 6. There's no reason to do that. It's simply a delay tactic. If I'm wrong, explain it. Did you ever hear of Digital Millennium Copyright Act and RIAA and MPPA then the FCC Rule and Local channel and all ot...
