Re: Displaying Closed Captions

In the US OTA closed captions are embedded in the video stream itself. The standard is called CEA-608/708. Not all video decoding and subtitle libraries support embedded closed captions; you may want to check your video player to ensure captions embedded in the video stream are supported.

Re: Can't use HDHR locally on Nvidia Shield TV

No, IIRC, SD's new app requires internet access, as SD hosts the UI portion on their servers. Therefore, it won't load the interface if it can't download from their servers.

If you need offline viewing, you need to find a different app.

Re: How to stop a stuck tuner?

Sure. There's a simple 2–step process. First, you need to unlock the tuner. (If the tuner is not locked, this will have no effect. However, it will also not cause any harm.) hdhomerun_config FFFFFFFF set /tuner0/lockkey force Substitute FFFFFFFF for the DeviceID of the HDHR you wish to unlock; and s...

Re: Seriously?

It's this attitude that keeps SD's software from being a viable alternative. They're well aware of the shortcomings of their software, they know it's been unusable, they continue to promote it, and they refuse to fix it. Their move to a remote-hosted, React-based UI is just further proof of this us...

Re: Seriously?

React based ui? When did this happen? That's what the whole "new UI" that would let them more quickly iterate development and support more features across all platforms was all about. That's why there are so many problems with the apps: they have pushed out something that is essentially a total rew...

Re: Seriously?

I ran into the same issue as the op a couple of weeks ago (yep football). While it is not a huge deal, the user experience is terrible. Moreover, 'this is how it has worked, it is not a new development' falls way short from a customer service perspective... K To be clear, I'm not saying it's a good...

Re: Windows 10 - HD homerun software, Kodi, or ?

If you are already using Kodi as a frontend, then you may want to consider migrating your DVR functions to software that has good support for not only HDHR tuners, but also a decent PVR client for Kodi. I personally used Tvheadend, and found it more than sufficient. (Its main issue is its difficulty...

Re: High data usage at home on data capped plan

All of those "streaming" entries are streaming the antenna feed to a client on your internal network. None of those messages relate to the HDHR streaming anything from the internet (in the Netflix-sense). Are you fairly certain it was the HDHR that used all that data? The only thing the tuner downlo...

Re: EPG123

EPG123 is simply a program to provide guide data. The DVR subscription is for a DVR service that includes guide data. They are different products, and for the most part the guide is from the same upstream provider (Gracenote), so the guide data is the same in both products.

Re: Verizon FIOS Not showing full listing of channels

Actually, the Prime does not quite get its lineup from the CableCARD. What it actually does is it gets the list of ALL channels from the CableCARD, then it runs a "channel scan" where it tries to tune each channel listed from the CableCARD. If it can successfully tune the channel within a certain br...

Re: Music Choice / Radio only Channels

Try seeing if you can get the channel to load in VLC. Bring up the dialog to open a network stream, and use http://IPADDRESS:5004/auto/vCHANNEL where IPADDRESS is the local IP address of your tuner, and CHANNEL is the Music Choice (or other) channel you wish to manually tune. If you are subscribed t...

Re: Music Choice / Radio only Channels

Make sure you have a tuning adapter if your provider has SDV channels. Also ensure your CableCARD is both authenticated and validated. I never once had problems with Music Choice channels either being detected or tuned. Also, the tuner doesn't need to scan a channel to attempt to tune it, so as a te...

Further, I knew the part of Stream being direct from Internet, but my XFinity box in theory is similar to HDHR.
No. Most Comcast boxes are usually IPTV, and therefore not using CableCARDs, but rather the same technology as Xfinity Stream.
