Well, fiddlesticks.

I'm not sure I understand what "modern method of tuning" is, but could you point me to any software that doesn't use it?

Thanks for the reply...
MythTV and Tvheadend are two such DVR software packages.

Re: Movies not showign under Recorded/Movies

The newer Hallmark Mystery movies are listed by the guide provider as a series, with each movie in the series as a different episode. The episodes are numbered sequentially, with the first aired movie in a series being episode 1, and so on. Older movies (say, prior to 2010 or thereabouts), or those ...

Re: View for Linux?

I am getting so disgusted with the HD viewer for Kodi. This is all I have to view my programs on my android TV device. The HD app for Kodi v17 Is an old design and almost worthless. The reason I'm stuck with Kodi v17 is because for some reason, the Kodi repository doesn't have the v18 upgrade for m...

Re: Schedule a recording while not connected to network

Not easily. I use a VPN and remote desktop to access my home PC when I'm traveling, and if I need to schedule a recording when doing that I just open Kodi and use the add-on. DVR subscriptions are tied to email addresses, so why doesn't SD maintain a database of current subscribers and their record...

Re: DVR through android app now unusable without internet connection

SiliconDust's DVR is a poor choice for your DVR is internet access is intermittent. The HDHomeRun DVR maintains all recording rules on SiliconDust's servers, and needs to frequently phone home in order to update its recording list. Most any other DVR software only relies upon internet access for upd...

Re: Servio DVR questions

New Servio DVR user with a couple of questions: 1) If 2 different programs are scheduled to record on the same channel at the same time, does this use 1 tuner or 2? 2) How do I determine if there are scheduling conflicts? ( ex. not enough tuners to record all scheduled programs) 3) How will I be no...

Re: two primes different number of channels

Ha! You're both lucky. I have 3 different channel counts. The first has 317 (or 318, depends on the day), but that one is expected to be less because its tuning adapter is disconnected. The other two have 342 and 421, both while connected to the tuning adapter. The problem is because the channel sca...

Re: HDHR5-4US: maximum length of LAN cable?

IIRC, the max length is 100m (~330ft). Longer than that, and you need a repeater or some other device (like a switch).

Take this as a request to allow us to disable background scans for cable PRIME tuners.
Yes, please allow for the disabling of background scans.

Posts that have not been commented on in a certain period of time are purged. I believe it's a 90 day period, but it may be different.

Re: Where is subtitle support?

Well, there are no problems with the hardware handling DVB subtitles. The problem is that SD's software doesn't support DVB subtitles. Your best bet is to pair SD's tuners with a different DVR. MythTV and Tvheadend are both quite adept, and in my experience Kodi works nicely as a frontend that suppo...

Re: Fire Stick 4k

It's the last day of June, has anyone gotten an update? I believe the current status is that an update went out in the past two weeks which included the MPEG2 decoding fix. (I received this on both of my 4K sticks.) However, EU (especially UK) users may have some more waiting, as apparently there i...

Re: What kind of hardware required for HDHR Recording computer?

Depends on the OS. If it's something lightweight like Linux without a GUI, I don't think you could find an AMD64 system that couldn't do 6. A dual-core ARM with a gig of RAM can handle that. The highest data rates seen in real-world usage are Canadian OTA broadcasts and a few Fios HD channels, whic...
