I've found that with my MCE remote (an HP Media Center remote) I can enter numbers to navigate if I 1) enter the number with no slices displayed or 2) up/down then left to the search icon refocusing to the search bar.

I had a similar problem as yours, but even worse issues with Spectrum cablecard service over the past year and a half. All channels here are DRM protected except locals and a few buy channels. A month later with no response so not sure if this was noted. So, I decided to try Live TV with the new UI for an extended viewing again last night and this error returned again, only this time when I changed the channel after 2 hours or so.
