Re: HDHomeRun image quality issues compared to Channels

There was some similar discussion of a quality regression in the HDHR iOS app here: viewtopic.php?f=119&t=71733

Re: Channels DVR + DRM

Quick update here on my DRM situation. I tried to contact Cox customer service to complain about CW and PBS being DRM, but it went nowhere. So last month, on Jun 24, I filed a complaint with the FCC: Cox is applying copy-once protection to several OTA broadcast station streams via their cable servic...

Re: Channels DVR + DRM

You really ought to complain to them about that, and file an FCC complaint if you don't get anywhere. It's a violation of federal code to DRM protect local broadcast channels. 47 CFR 76.1904 (a) Commercial audiovisual content delivered as unencrypted broadcast television shall not be encoded so as ...

Channels DVR + DRM

TL;DR: No, we're not adding support for DRM. But: if you have a PRIME and many of your basic cable channels are DRMd, we may have a solution for you ! Hi everyone. Some of you may recognize me as one of the devs behind the Channels app and Channels DVR. Channels started as a way to improve our own ...

Re: HDHomeRun OTA Live for Roku

I have a theory about why Comcast channels have problems and engineering is going to look into it. It may not be something that can be fixed on our side since ultimately it would be a bug in the Roku player, but if it is what I think it is we can report it to Roku and tell them exactly what's wrong...

Re: Fire Stick 4k

The green screen bug was fixed a month or so ago, but there are still some hangs/crashes on interlaced content (particularly interlaced h264) which have been promised but not yet delivered.

Re: Fire Stick 4k

I have just received a call from amazon support after leaving a 1 star review on the amazon fire stick 4k. They basically just said that they are aware of the problem and will release the update when they have a fix. No timeline on when that will be. Could be soon, could be not so soon. So I am stu...

Re: Possible to flag primarily audio channels in the EPG?

FYI, there is a bit in the MPEGTS PMT for music channels which signals that the video stream consists of still images.

See still_picture_flag in the video_stream_descriptor (H.222 2.6.2)

Re: Fire Stick 4k

In the Channels app, we have noticed an issue with the hardware decoder on the 4K Stick where it will crash after decoding video for a while. It then refuses to work at all until you reboot the device. This is a bug in the video decoder and has nothing to do with Wi-Fi or any app.

Re: Fire Stick 4k

We've released Channels 2.1 today which works around the buggy hardware mpeg2 decoder on the 4K stick. Thanks to everyone who emailed in sample recordings to help us debug this problem. We've opened some bug reports with Amazon and hopefully they'll be able to address the hardware decoding issues in...

Re: Fire Stick 4k

There does appear to be something funky going on with the deinterlacer on the new 4K stick. I don't have the green flashing issue here, but playing any 1080i channel (NBC, CBS) will crash the decoder after about half an hour of playback. Video freezes on screen and the underlying mediacodec decoder ...

Re: Fire Stick 4k

Channels app dev here. We just got our 4K stick and are running some tests as well. My CBS feeds are fine, but I would be curious to run some analysis on yours. Could you record a 60s sample and email it to support@getchannels.com? (Using the IP of your HDHR, open http://x.x.x.x:5004/auto/v9.2?durat...
