Re: Missing AC-4 stream
VLC relies on FFmpeg which doesn't support AC-4, so it just ignores the AC-4 audio stream as unknown binary data

Re: having issue with my HDHomerun again..
KCWX is moving from VHF-lo 5 to a DTS operation on VHF-Hi 8 . I'm not sure which of them will cover your area, but they will have sites in Albert/Lindendale , Austin , Atascosa , Lake Hills/Blue Heaven , Mountain Home and Cherokee .

Re: Android / Fire TV app release
The version in the Google Play Store has a bug where it will not play ATSC 3.0 channels on devices that don't have an AC-4 decoder. It is fixed in the above version, but we're having some issues getting it approved in the Play Store and that may not be able to be resolved until next week. You can ...

Re: Curious as to why I can't receive one particular channel
WMOS-CD rebroadcasts CBS and is 11 miles away instead of 55.
Unless WOMS-CD converted to ATSC 3.0 without properly notifying the FCC, it doesn't rebroadcast WWMT/CBS.
The RabbitEars data for WOMS-CD and the other repeaters are screwed up since they're still flagged as repeaters of WXSP-CD ...

Re: Curious as to why I can't receive one particular channel
If you're talking about WOMS-CD on RF 29, that's only a 0.4 kW signal. Also, the RabbitEars data for it got screwed up when WXSP-CD and WOLP-CD converted to ATSC 3.0 for Grand Rapids, while their former simulcasts including Muskegon's WOMS-CD remained ATSC 1.0.

"hdhomerun3_atsc_firmware" is for the legacy DUAL gen-3 (HDHR3-US)
For the Flex Duo (HDFX-2US) you need to use "hdhomerun_dvr_atsc_firmware":

Re: Still unable to get WBAY locked back in as of April 1st but I might have found a solution that HDHomeRun have to do
According to the live bandscan at RabbitEars, WBAY still has 2.6 in their PSIP data, although as of 4/1 it's now labeled as "WBAY-6" instead of "Catchy", so they might be keeping it as a placeholder for a future addition.

Re: Channel Master FM Filter Question
With all the noise interference plaguing the VHF band, it's rare to get 100% signal quality on VHF in urban and suburban locations where things outside of your household like nearby neighbors, street lights, traffic signals, business signs, etc are contributing to the noise.

Re: Encryption
Even though AVC/H264 was added as an optional part of the specs in 2008, manufacturers were still pumping out tuners and TVs that are coded to only recognize streamType 0x02 (MPEG-2) for ATSC 1.0. Most notably the pre-Scripps models of a certain popular DVR. Over at the AVS forum there are a bunch ...

Re: Encryption
However owners of your 4K tuners are unable to record any programming in 4K or even view programing.
No progress appears to being made to change this, so why bother selling 4K capable SD hardware?
Even if the A3SA approved DRM decoding today, no one is using ATSC 3.0 to broadcast in 4K.
Not all ...

Re: Las Vegas - Channel 29 or Channel 1?
Since Vegas is the home of the NAB and CES shows several broadcasters occasionally get experimental licenses to test new technologies. i.e. From 10/8-11/17 KSNV has an experimental license to test mobile reception with Hyundai on UHF 33 . And if KVCW's UHF 29 signal is like Sinclair's other ATSC 3.0 ...

12.5 StartTV is on KNIC's UHF 18 signal

the 3.0 transmission is on a tower in an entire other city with an ERP of 15 kW (cannot receive reliably).
That's because the ATSC 1.0 simulcasts have to be on signals that reach at least 95% coverage of the station that converted to ATSC 3.0. In a bunch of markets that meant the only viable ATSC ...

Re: Encryption
It's not just converter boxes from the transition era. All of the previous models of one of your competitors network tuners don't support H264, even though their first model came out in the mid-2010s well after H264 was added as an optional part of ATSC 1.0. (It's the one that has since been ...
