Re: New FCC filing by Silicondust

The problems are that MPEG2 and AC3 are horribly outdated and inefficient and 8VSB gets destroyed by multipath. ATSC 3.0 solves all of these problems. It just has other problems, some that the FCC can do something about (DRM) and some that it can't (high cost of licensing, uncertainty surrounding ...

Re: AC-4 decoding type indication?

The best indication I've found of transcoding is 2-channel output on a 5.1 source. If your receiver shows E-AC-3 (DD+) 5.1 from an ATSC 3.0 channel, it definitely didn't come from cloud transcoding.

I wish I could! What will you be demoing? Something cooler than basic ATSC 3.0?

KeithAbbott wrote: Thu Mar 26, 2026 7:16 pm Also, when the AVC icon is displayed for a channel, does that imply MPEG-4 format? Is it possible that channels flagged as AVC will utilize the MPEG-2 format?
Yes. No.

AVC = H.264 = MPEG-4 Part 10.

Sounds about right, those wall warts don't last forever. 5 years of (presumably) continuous use is a pretty good run.

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

Just google it.
Samsung stopped putting 3.0 in their OLEDs a year or so ago. I think they still offer it in the QLED line.
LG also stopped a couple of years ago.

That is nothing like "won't support DRM". I have yet to see a manufacturer publicly say anything about ATSC 3.0 DRM.

Those ...

Wow! Lon is simply amazing! Great video! If only the powers that be in the government would view it and make a commonsense decision to end this DRM farce!

I believe several tv manufacturers have already said that they won't support DRM.

I don't know of any *TV* manufacturers that have said ...
