Re: Best front-end for "set top box" experience?

With the Advent of Google Assistant and the NVidia Shield, your hopes and dreams are closer to reality. Most every other box seems to missing "something. Whether it's Amazon video, HDMI-CEC, etc. The Shield seems to check more boxes than anything else. You of all people should have one, at least fo...

Re: Best front-end for "set top box" experience?

Some of these inexpensive, "No-Name" Android TV boxes do play the Live and Recorded streams very well, PLUS a lot of other things. This is a video showing the performance of a $38 US Android box, using a Google Android Lean back launcher. It supports Widevine Level 1 and HDCP-1.x so, it has gives N...

Re: Best front-end for "set top box" experience?

Shucks my little $38 Android box can passthrough HD audio natively, plays Netflix in 1080p, and has the Google Android TV OS lean back launcher. It has a one button access to Chrome browser, and with a webcam attached, it can Skype and other video chat. It plays my BlueRay rips flawlessly with HD au...

Re: Best front-end for "set top box" experience?

My little $37 Android box runs a modded version of the Google Android TV OS running Android 7.1.2, and supports Widevine Level 1 with HDCP-1.x, which means Netflix in 1080P with DD+. YouTube plays in 4k. There is HD audio passthrough natively. Live Channels is also included and really fast channel c...

Re: Unofficial Kodi PVR Client for HDHomeRun DVR subscribers

Looking forward to the Leia build. With Leia LibreELEC, it brings support for Netflix in HD, so with your client, makes this box closer to an all in one device.
Thanks.

Re: Hiccup on recorded videos with Android player

OK, just checked a couple of my other Amlogic boxes and they do not have this problem. So, it must be something specific to that box's firmware.

Re: Hiccup on recorded videos with Android player

The funny thing about android is that there are so many different versions of it. I don't just mean android 6.0 vs 7.0. Android doesn't really have the concept of drivers, instead what happens is that people change things in android itself in attempts to deal with the specific hardware they're runn...

Re: Hardware Advice

The HDCP is finicky, but only for apps that support HD video. In other words, everything works, but no Netflix in HD. The HDHomeRun app is unaffected. Right now, I am using the $38 US younger sister, same device and same capabilities except using Amlogic S905x SoC.

Hiccup on recorded videos with Android player

While playing recorded videos, I am getting a hiccup every second or two on my Android box. Not sure when this issue started, but did not have this problem before. Only get this hiccup with Dolby Digital output. If I disable the (use AC3 passthrough when possible"), then the hiccup goes away, and th...

Re: Hardware Advice

Thank you very much! Forgive my lack of technical knowledge here, but let me take a shot at understanding this... I hadn't heard of the Mecool and I don't see it widely available at the more common stores. At quick glance for the basic specs I understand at least, I see it's 3 GB RAM vs. 2 on the M...

Re: Hardware Advice

For less than $60 US, you can get a Mecool M8S Pro L with an Amlogic S912 SoC. It supports IEEE 802.11ac WiFi and also supports Widevine Level 1 with HDCP-1.x, which gives you Netflix in 1080P. It plays my OTA channels flawlessly, including 720p, 1080i and 480i. It smokes my Nexus Players and Xiaomi...
