Re: fed up

If FiOS is available, then you get their cable service, a CableCARD, and use a Prime with your software DVR of choice. Be aware that in some parts of FiOS land Verizon is starting to use a new ONT that does not provide a linear QAM TV source (but it also offers a higher speed Internet service, shou...

Please remember that the tags in my documentation/codes are guesses. I believe we are still waiting for NedS to find some time to make an authoritative doc.

LOS ANGELES — A new digital video recorder specification is now available to licensees of the A3SA content protection technology being deployed throughout the country concurrent with the launch of NEXTGEN TV broadcast channels. Technically A3SA always allowed networked tuner use (within the residen...

Once SD gets the android solution certified wouldn't using the fire tv stick be the same secure solution. While FireOS is currently based on the Android Open Source Project platform (based on rumors and posted job openings(*) at Amazon they are moving to a platform called Vega), the underlying devi...

Re: Encryption

From what I read, there is a way for broadcasters to offer internet delivery of content in NextGen TV. It is mentioned as Broadband Channels, in the release note of the other box which they intent to release support soon (Feb 2024) At least one of the initial (back in the initial discussions about ...

On top of that I would love to see RUI and DTCP2 be an option as I think we may start seeing some DTCP2 capable tvs in a few years if certain mandates I have read about for other parts of the world go into effect for 4k/8k but I don't see the tv manufactures coming together to all support a standar...

Re: Servio

Interested to hear what people think... Be careful asking for thoughts, for you may get them. First off, for a DVR, I think gigabit is a must for any new design (multi-gig would be a plus). Now, on to disk(s). Ignoring for the moment that in the US only time shifting (and not archiving) is an autho...

What features will we offer broadcasters that use DRM? .... One thing I can think does not seem to be explicitly addressed in all the stated constraints: Will the "bound" tuner need to be in a location where it can continue to receive a signal from the transmitter (aka geo-fencing of play...

Re: HDHomeRun Prime and Spectrum Cable DFW

Any thoughts on this? I know if I call Spectrum they will refuse to support me and suggest I get a cable box. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Some parts of DFW have reportedly recently been converted to high-split. Legacy TA's will no longer work. And the validation will most likely event...

Re: 1Gbps or faster Ethernet?

Can anyone tell me why the ethernet on the HDHomeRun is still only 100Mbps? In addition to what baldursgate said, also be aware that many of the low(er) cost SoC's do not have the capability of a gigabit port (either at all, or without other compromises). There are always more expensive SoC's avail...

Re: HDHomeRun 4K is Nextgen TV Certified

What the broadcasters have been recently pushing is the FCC subsidizes a cheap box that converts ATSC 3.0 to a HDMI output to support existing ATSC 1.0 only TV's and then everyone can go ATSC 3.0. Not good enough. That box also needs a standard NTSC output for those still using CECBs. For the dinos...

How do you know they won't go back to the same low VHF once they transition off of the 3.0 lighthouse transmitters? Every market is special, and it is clearly a work in progress, but all the station owners initially suggested (via vigorous hand-waving) that the long term plan is that there will be ...

... but Channels could potentially make it work. They struck out on getting DTCP-IP licensing for CableCARD DRM, but Widevine is a totally different system with different requirements so it's not an automatic 'no'. There are always possibilities, and Channels can certainly change their plans (and m...

When it is ready, and not before.

If what you are asking is a precise date, get used to disappointment (for a precise date will not be provided).

I suspect a lot of people don't read the terms they agree to when participating in the Apple beta program. There's some interesting stuff there that I won't mention, but one thing I will mention is that all feedback is supposed to be submitted to Apple. FWIW, I personally am not a beta program part...
