Honestly, I don't know how it's even legal for cable companies to do this.
I am sure you don't. But this gives you an opportunity to actually read the laws and regulations and educate yourself.

Re: Linux 5.6 new warning for hdhomerun_record regarding executable stack

Unfortunately it looks like we will have to upgrade and recompile the toolchain to fix the gcc library... will look into that tomorrow. Ouch. Upgrading an entire tool-chain can require a lot of re-validation and certification in the embedded device world (and is why not so long ago I was aware of o...

Re: Change in 20200318 RECORD (Android) or defect?

I'm pretty upset about this one, especially since it wasn't published in the changelog and screws up existing functionality. I would agree that it would be nice to have an extended developer (only?) changelog, but AFAIK the officially documented APIs (on either the github or info.hdhomerun.com site...

Linux 5.6 new warning for hdhomerun_record regarding executable stack

With LInux 5.6 commit 47a2ebb7f5 a new warning from the kernel has been added of the form: process '/usr/bin/hdhomerun_record' started with executable stack The kernel git log documents some cases where code practices can result in this artifact (and, as I recall, uclibc has a configuration option r...

Re: HDPrime Missing Some Comcast Channels

Is this true that cablecards can not be updated to include these channels? IPTV is proprietary (same reason you need to use the Netflix app for Netflix, the Hulu app for Hulu, the Xfinity app for ....) and the data comes across in an completely different path (IP), and not linear QAM which is what ...

Re: Feature Request

it is not possible to have the cablecard in the prime decode from another device. And as I recall the TA is bound to the CableCARD authentication. And the CableCARD ecosystem typically is spec'ed to only support/decode 6 concurrent streams, so a Prime 6 will have all the tuners it can use moving fo...

Re: Channel Scan

Some times the signal can actually be too strong (and if your previous device shows 100%, that could be the issue). Since your current antenna appears to have an amp, disconnect the amp to reduce the signal levels and see if things change, or try adding a pad.

Re: Device unstable

The usual answer from SD is to turn on the tuner diagnostics (via the hdhomerun configuration app, or the device webpage/system status -> enable diagnostics, or the hdhomerun_config cli), and then run a channel scan, and then report back as to when you performed the scan, and SD (typically during no...

Re: HDPrime Missing Some Comcast Channels

In a phased transition, in some locations, there is a more subtle issue that is going on. As Comcast is transitioning some HD channels from QAM to IPTV they are *supposed* to be removing the HD channel numbers from the legacy STBs and CableCARD maps (leaving just the SD channel number), while leavin...

Re: some channels missing

For scans and background scans, (not sure how the Prime firmware works, don't have source code) couldn't you have it consult the CabelCard when it scans channels to see if the subscriber is subscribed to the channel and not mark it as unsubscribed As I recall, you have to try to tune/decode the cha...

Re: some channels missing

Don't know if it's related, but thought I'd mention that Comcast is in the process of changing local channels from mpeg2 to AVC/H.264. Comcast has been doing this conversion market by market, channel group by channel group (first the national channels because they are all done in a few places (prim...

Re: Get list of scheduled recordings?

But I strongly subscribe to the theory one should always have enough tuners not to worry about any such potential conflicts. Life is too short to deal with potential conflict resolution (as it is a constant activity), given all the things that can happen between "now" and "then". While it is just a...

Re: Adding File to DVR Recordings

gtb... I believe that doesn't exist Specifically it would have been the HDHRUtil-DVR-fileImport utility (intended to, well, import media files into the DVR), but as it was posted (I think) in the development area, it would have lasted in the forum much longer than the typical 90 days in other topic...

Any progress on releasing this tool @nickk? Thanks.
There is a 3rd party tool which can import and create the the required metadata documented at viewtopic.php?f=125&t=68701 (the HDHRUtil command set).

Re: some channels missing

It looks like both you and the other person have Comcast in the Nashville area/market. We're thinking Comcast has something messed up on their end, but we're still looking into it. I have seen something like this in a completely different market, as the 1001/2 are tuned right after the 9xx music ch...
