Re: Encryption
I've never disagreed with Lon on anything until he said that. I have 2 big reasons.
#1. The Flex 4k contains the best 1.0 tuners on the market hands down. I noticed a huge improvement in reception quality upon upgrading from a HDHR Quattro.
I agree, the ATSC 1.0 tuner on the Flex is one of ...

Re: Encryption
The issue is that it isn’t up to HDHR whether the Internet access is required or not.
It *is* up to SD to make an app that doesn't work without internet, irrespective of DRM. Their app currently *does not* function without internet for live TV, recorded programs, ATSC1 or 3 or cable. At all ...

It is a better picture than 1.0 in my opinion. I only have one 3.0 signal available to watch in my area, the Fox affiliate, NBC and CBS are encrypted and the ABC affiliate does not have a 3.0 signal. The 1.0 signals are not receivable reliably where I live but the 3.0 signals are rock ...

We have PLENTY of leverage as long as it's NOT mandated. Just don't buy any ATSC 3.0 tuner, AND continue to get the word out to everybody you know, that neither should they, because they are encrypting everything. Dissuade everybody you can from even considering anything to do with 3.0 ...

Re: Encryption
There's a lot of room to improve, sure. A paperweight, though? I think that's disingenuous.
Open to feedback - what features/areas do you think there is room to improve on?
AppleTV - we are adding 1080i 60fps support and the ability to disable slice guide for people who are watching by ...

Re: Encryption
Before everyone gets too excited, be sure to read the fine print that was buried at the end - bold emphasis mine:
What they are saying here is that so long as the ATSC 1.0 broadcast is out there they'll give you this functionality. After that is the rug pull where all of the restrictions they've ...

Re: Encryption
Yep, DC market is next to test that. From what I understand, the broadcaster will send out URLs for the shows in ATSC 3.0 signal. The tuner will extract that information out and connect to the URL to receive the actual content. Sounds interesting but I suspect it will be DRM protected to hell ...
